So ebay and paypal choose to do nothing about this? Even with the evidence of the signed package? This should be between the buyer and the postal service that delivered the item if there is evidence that the item was signed for it shouldn’t be your problem anymore at all.
It’s one thing if he claimed the box was full of rocks or something, if he is claiming he never received the package at all then that’s between him and the postal service.
Nowadays I feel like I need to start taking a gopro video of myself placing the item in the package at the post office, sealing it, handing it to the postal worker with the tracking number shown. And I bet ebay in all their apathetic greed would still side with the scammer. They just don’t care. Maybe after going back and forth with them and paypal for months after contacting them 10 different times they might do something or just tell you to file a police report. An ebay seller’s union would be nice, but I don’t think there is enough collective motivation out there for something like that to get off the ground. Imagine them not only communicating with ebay/paypal on your behalf but also sending verified scammers legitimate legal notices threatening action if they do not return the item undamaged or return funds to seller. I would pay $50 a month dues for that kind of peace of mind.
I provided the same exact USPS screenshot (with signature & all) to eBay & I got the ‘seller protection expired’ or ‘please file police report’ nonsense.
Just want to let you know it’s gonna be tough for eBay to help because my situation is exact to your case.
And from what I’ve experienced because its been so many months eBay literally refuses to entertain such cases…
Unfortunately I’ve decided to donate my Mewtwo card because the hassle isn’t worth my time & effort unfortunately
Thank you to everyone who has gone out of there way to help Pokemon really has the best community and E4 especially! He won’t respond to my messages but to the people who he has been talking to he has lied saying that I was harassing him about stealing the card for months etc. here is my full conversation with him, no matter how legit someone looks online it really goes to show once money gets involved that goes out the window. But I feel very grateful to E4 and this community as I know that I always have somewhere to fall back to for support!
@effectspore, That is the correct serial number for the one I sold him, I just didn’t save a picture of it at the time just edited it on my other Zard to make it easier
PokeRev uses worthpoint but worthpoint api doesn’t catch all the sales. You can search worthpoint for free (you just can’t see the sale amount). Worthpoint isn’t very reliable for specific sales but good for sales over several years and for things you can’t necessarily track on PSAcards or PWCC like booster boxes sold on eBay (outside of PWCC auctions)
@shizzlemetimbers if you have a basic tier eBay store you can try the eBay tool Terapeak which has some interesting eBay analytics. I believe it only goes back one year though. I don’t have the service anymore or I’d check.
The increasing amount of fraud is, I assume, why more people will hesitate to sell and just hold on to their collection.
I contacted a local Aussie Poke FB site about how they deal with fraud, and the response was to sell in person or online with an absolute trusted person in the community.
You know even since 2017 a lot has changed. I barely recognize any sellers on ebay anymore. There are also a lot of sketchy IG accounts that have grown quite a bit which is an indicator of the hobbies overall growth.
I restarted my Poke childhood in 2018 due to media value-craze. It’s undertstandable why people would sell out due to value. It’s especially sad when the players making a name for themselves such as the guy in question do the same.
I’m kinda glad Australia Post only insure upto $5000, as I’m slowly realizing now the risk of selling higher-end cards on Ebay is probably not worth the risk.
Damn, the buyer even has a lot of feedback and is a long-time eBay user. Really unfortunate, hopefully you’ll both get what you deserve (meaning you’ll at least get your money back and the buyer a lot of backlash lol). 700 aus also is an absolute steal rn
How long does it take for the eBay/PayPal seller protection to expire?
