Personally I wouldn’t either of them if I had that kind of disposable income but if I had to choose I’d take Pearl over the Orb. To me pearl is just more pleasing card and like I said in other thread about pearl I like how there is Palkia ”hidden in plain sight.”
Obv this just my take and I didnt count in rarity, price or how hard it is to find either of them in what ever condition.
I like the mysterious pearl the best! Palkia in the background is super sick.
Would also take the Pearl over the Orb. I might be alone in this view but if I’m spending that kind of money on a Pokemon card I’d at least want it to have something discernible that binds it to the Pokemon universe (a Pokemon or a trainer). The energy symbols are a nice nod to the TCG but they can’t hold a candle to an iconic legendary like Palkia.
This is also why I could never see myself buying a trophy card like a Master’s Scroll. While there is interesting history behind the card, the scroll itself is so generic that it could literally fit into another TCG like Magic or Yu-Gi-Oh. To me, it doesn’t scream “Pokemon” and that’s not my cup of tea.
Hey alleybro,
You’ve selected some pretty nice cards to focus on lately, so good luck on growing your collection whatever you choose.
As for your question; which would I pick? Well I’m not going to answer that for you. However, I will provide you with my opinion that may help you to decide these things on your own moving forward as well as critiquing your potentially bad habits.
I’d like to start by saying asking others for help and their opinions is of course, alright, if asked correctly. Asking the same questions although, can be quite tiresome unfortunately. I certainly see these topics as new-comer vibes of “What should I buy?”.
Researching cards on your own is a fundamental that you can’t overlook. What’s even better is it’s completely free! The only thing you need to spend on your research is time! I say this as a few members in particular who responded to your last topic put their time, effort and research in to their responses for you. You asked about cards you didn’t know the history of, the population of or the price of which mostly could’ve been looked up pretty rapidly, if you knew where to look. I’d have hoped to see that you learned to take what they done for you and applied it for yourself so I’ll help with that.
The most essential websites to visit regarding the history and populations of rare cards that seem to peak your interest would be Bulbapedia and Pokumon.
For sales data visit eBay sold listings and PWCC sales history.
If you want to see the graded population reports look at PSA, BGS and CGC.
Between these websites, they collectively contain the majority of everything you need to know starting out if not more!
Once you’ve looked up these points you should be able to answer most questions you have when choosing what to buy next or what would you rather have scenarios. Such as you’ll now have a basic understanding of each cards history like what tournament they were awarded at, how many copies of each card were officially distributed during the event, how many cards are in the graded population reports and what are the prices of raw and graded cards. Factor these points together plus your own eye appeal and budget and I’d be surprised if you don’t find your answer.
This may be irrelevant if you want to buy a card based on others opinions and not your own, that’s fine by all means too I suppose lol.
I hope I’ve not sounded too cynical.
Yeah thank you for the lengthy response , I enjoyed reading it
I am interested in what others think of what should be added too a collection not my own or else I would have chosen already and not post this on Elite
I think considering the price point and how the card looks, I would also go for the Mysterious Pearl. They both have great distribution history and are some great promo cards. Objectively speaking, I would consider how much is the price difference though. I feel that you can always find a pearl card to buy but some of the other card don’t always show up.
Hope this does not confuse you even more.
Cheers!
I ll be honest … I want that Victory Orb more than the Pearl BUT , I can see why many think the Pearl is the way too go as yeah it looks more appealing , it’s still a trophy card , and although it’s print run is 500 or less compared to the victory orb 2003 at 153 printed , I think the Pearl is a wise choice for my first trophy card
Also the person I may get the orb from wants a lot of value and they would take a psa 9 gold star rayquaza of mine plus cash for the orb ( over 4K)
Seems too much ? Yet again it’s pop 3 psa 9 confirmed 153 print run so very limited un like the Pearl that we don’t really know how many were printed and distributed so maybe they are 400-500 print run
Ugh lol
Way too much in my opinion. A PSA 9 2003 Victory Orb recently sold for $7,200 in April 2023.

This seems like a battle between mind and heart. I personally feel that in such scenarios you should go for the card you resonate more with and feel good about. As @Dyl mentioned in his post on your last topic, these prize cards are super illiquid. You don’t want to make a purchase which you will regret in the slightest or have to compromise with, since you will probably pay a lot of money for them. Buyers remorse is a thing.
Considering this is your second topic with the Mysterious Pearl being the common card in both, I think you know the answer in your heart but feel the need for it to be validated. The Pearl was my first prize card and I still cant believe that I own it. It is a truly special card since I had to plan my budgeting a lot to be able to afford it. I personally don’t think I would make a different choice if I had to do it all over again, and had the knowledge and insight regarding the POP of some other rarer cards.
May you make a choice that makes you happy. Looking forward to your update on what you choose.
Cheers!
I will for sure update and I too think it’s best for me too choose the Pearl
The person that also selling the Orb has a potential psa 9 Pearl ( they sent it in for grading waiting for the grade reveal ) and they said if it grades the psa 9 they want possibly 6.5-7k on it and I don’t even know if that is a good amount for the Pearl since the only recent sales I saw was pwcc at around 4-5k
Also that orb sale on pwcc was purchased by this seller and it’s that orb that is up for potential purchase from me lol they want a lot I think for both buut they both are rare cards so I see why there asking for the amount they are but who knows maybe it is too much
I don’t know much about you as a collector, but I would encourage you to think through why you want trophy cards to begin with. If it is just about buying expensive and rare cards for “flexing” or “investing,” I would reconsider. However, if you enjoy the (typically) unique art and the story behind the cards’ creation and distribution, then I think you should go down this rabbit hole.
I agree with @mrbubbles: You don’t want to make a purchase that you will regret in the future. What type of collector are you? How does this specific card fit in with your goals?
