oh your talking about actually going outside of pokemon.
well that is a different story i guess. I just mean in pokemon investment terms i guess.
I cbf crypto atm. pokemons better. base set currency for life. xD
but seriously… Crypto wont bring me the joy of opening base set… i need to get 1st ed box first. i mean it would if i profited and then grabbed a box, but what if the box doubles and my etherium dies, and everyones gpus die,.
I mean i guess we all do the tingz that we love or have knowledge of.
If i got 54k to spend i know it would go instantly on pokemon… or ide be getting many things over the next year that are 100% pokemon.
So as a complete moron, but also a god like figure… All cents would go to pokemon Its just the way of the world.
Yeah I reckon that youd be right in saying that im right.
Because im never wrong
however people have gone to great lengths to proove me wrong before. Theyve attempted to cripple economies… Prices dropped on things… and I was left having to shoot myself with my own a salt rifle.
The guy’s video already has a quarter-million views, and it’s only been online for a few hours. It will easily have a million views by the weekend, and possibly tens of millions by the end of the year. There’s his ROI.
The box will go up for sale soon enough because he got his views and hits in.
Probably will make a 10-15k loss on the box, or contacting high end eBay shops like Gary, Rusty, Cullers and of course Scott to get rid off it ‘under the radar’.
No shit…I mean your posts are stating the blindingly obvious - there are investments out there with a greater ROI than Pokemon…I think everyone here is aware of that anyway lol.
Cool video and surely nice experience for both parties. You know Pokemon is starting to be serious business when people fly across the world to obtain new additions.
Part of me says that this is good because of the exposure, another part of me really wishes this box would have gone to someone who would have really enjoyed it.
E4 was created as a “front porch” for serious collectors as well as those who wished to be. It’s a place to both gather and pass on knowledge. The investment side was hoped to be secondary. An interesting topic but not the purpose of the site. We all have tried to be fair in our trading, selling, and buying from each other. We don’t see each other as “investment tools” or “lowballing loonies”. It’s one of the reasons we like everyone, especially new people, to state what they want and what they’ll pay. We’re not on here to waste the little time we have to spend on our great hobby by bargaining back and forth with people who just want to save a buck. Like I’ve said before, I’d rather pay Charlie 100.00 for something than a newbie on eBay who wants 75.00. He may have posted something 6 months ago that really helped you along your path so when you can, why not support him? It’s better for the health of our site. By supporting each other we’re strengthening the hobby.
Keep in mind we are a large collection of enthusiasts who fall on different places of the Pokemon spectrum. We all have different ideas whereas one is no more valid than the next. That’s why they’re called opinions. Heck, often times we learn a new way from each other.
So in conclusion, this thread is interesting to discuss but it’s not why we’re all here so quit bagging on each other. If you have a need to flex your muscles head on over to Facebook, IG, the gym or the beach.
PS…I can already hear the pot and kettle black comments. Let me just answer that by saying, “Do as I say, not as I do” lol.
Seriously though, my rants are often due to matters that I believe hurt the site…like this rant;)
I’m sure he will enjoy it cash wise and that is fine. My point was that I don’t think someone who has been at this a couple months can really appreciate the significance of that box. He has the deep pockets and an audience that eats his content up. He was fully in his rights to purchase the box. There are just so few of these out there that I would have liked to see it go to an avid collector and ambassador to the hobby.
I feel the exact same way about this situation. I’ve thought about this a lot in the last year and then rethought a few times and came to the realization that maybe it is stupid of me to feel this way, but hear me out. I feel like half of these people that jumped on during the Pokemon Go hype can’t appreciate these old sets and old cards like long time collectors can, those of us who have been here since the early 2000’s.
You see all of these YouTubers dropping thousands of dollars to generate hype and views, yet they struggle to pronounce half of the Pokemon names properly and wouldn’t be able to name the Pokemon if all they had was an image. They don’t have that same deep personal connection that a lot of old school fans to who grew up with these sets and have watched this hobby grow over the last 20 years.
It seems unfair of me to think this way because there will always be new people wanting to jump in and experience the older side of the franchise and there is nothing wrong with that at all. I don’t want to sound like the “I liked this before it was cool” guy because I’m really not, but I can’t help but feel this way since last summer.
You are feeling like it is stupid/unfair to think that way because it is indeed stupid and unfair to think that way.
Who is to say who is worthy? I started back in 1999 and was heavily into the games and cards but never the show. I grew up pronouncing names a certain way as all I had to go by was what my friends and I came up with just sounding the names out. Going back and watching the show 20 years later I have now corrected a lot of it and it was quite funny to hear the mistakes I made, but that is all besides the point. This line of thinking is way too prevalent in the hobby and it makes me think back to the childishness surrounding the Art Academy cards. The sellers thinking they were entitled to sell their cards for their own set prices as well as then dictating down the line what the new owners could do with them. Getting all butthurt when they realized some decided to resell them for whatever reason. Same thing with people being butthurt over this youtube “view whore” Richie Rich coming along and buying a box that they would love to own but can’t shell out the cash for. The fact is this is a supply/demand market where we all participate as adults and choose what we want to pay for items. People will always be out there having more money for you and sometimes pushing the prices of items you want beyond your budget. Saying what something “should” be worth or who is worthy of buying/owning certain cards is just foolish.
Did most of you guys watch the full video? I get some of you are upset something like this didn’t “stay in the circle of upper echelon prestigious collectors” but he did say he always liked Pokemon and grew up with it. No he’s not heavily invested in the hobby like many of us are but he’s still a fan of it. He also unboxed a 1st edition Fossil box a few months back as well so it’s not like he bought it “purely to make a profit” like some are making it seem. I think it’s great how he documented it and actually flew to another country with a crew just to pick it up. I think he’s a kid at heart and loves Pokemon like any of us. He could have kept the whole thing a secret and even opened it and not told anyone and then there’s another box no one would hear about or see again. It’s a shame to see how some people are reacting to this… Who are we to really judge him…
Not trying to single anyone out, but I beleive only a couple people here have been a little bit wrapped around the axle over what he chose to do with his money. Also not trying speakfor anyone, but I think the vast majority of people who follow this forum would (generally) think positively about anyone spending money on what they like… especially when so many people here have reaped their own rewards from the incremental gains hobby, whether for investment purposes or otherwise.
