So That $54,300 1st Ed. Base Set Booster Box...

How did @funmonkey54 make an abundance money off of this? Am I missing something…

In regards to your claims, I said that on the original thread and no one backed me on it. The trends for 1st Ed shadowless are going up but hey, it’s all for fun

Isn’t that the username of the guy who sold the box?

Charlie was there to help verify the legitimacy of the box. He didn’t sell the 1st ed box lol

This. A million times THIS!

I get so many offers for Pokemon goodies that I’ve had in storage for 20 years, and nine times out of 10, the offer is an obvious lowball. It’s usually insulting, because they know exactly what they are doing. And even if they don’t, they are wasting my time (and theirs).

I joined this forum not to make a buck, but to interact with other longtime collectors. Good people who came to the hobby long before anyone viewed it as an “investment.”

Gary’s description of this forum as a “front porch” is spot on. In fact, there are times when I’m here, interacting with likeminded collectors, when I really do feel transformed back to my childhood, sitting on the porch with my buddies, drinking Big Gulps and trading baseball cards.

Mad anger coming through from some people here. You’re embarrassing yourselves. No need to be jealous, just feel happy for the guy - he’s done well doing his own thing, and it’s got him to a point where he can drop 50k and fly over to USA. He deserves a round of applause, not this bickering bs about investment. If you were successful yourself, you wouldn’t be even voicing such a strong opinion against another investor. Pure salt being thrown around.

Anyway, how about this idea:
Tin foil hat time. I can’t help thinking that there’s a few people with stashes of things like this box in their storage. I believe they privately sell a few off behind the scenes, and these are the ones that make it to market. It’s clever because whilst they don’t make the top end from the auction, they control the market and still make a load of cash once a year or so.

Has anyone seen this big collection of boxes? This one is way more expensive considering it contains so many boxes from different sets.

yes

That ebay user is also a member on here.

That’s not a tin foil hat you’re wearing. It’s your thinking cap! This is exactly what’s going on.

Well he might enjoy it a little bit, i mean to spend $50k you have to like it a bit but he didn’t even know what the box was and didn’t know what it was worth either. From my point of view it is 99% to invest… They even went halves in it.

@thecharizardauthorty owns that collection. It is definitely listed high, but honestly if it sits long enough the price may get there one day. Obviously a ton of that is hinging solely on the WOTC 1st edition boxes. Though with this listing his intentions may be to outrun the market value consistently over time like @garyis2000 does with his charizard listing I am not too sure.

You never know though. Somebody with big money and little time may message him an offer he can’t refuse as many of these boxes are so scarce these days that you cannot simply stroll over to eBay and find every box on that list. It would likely take a year or more to manage all of them and that is best case scenario if you pay the high end list price on each box as it comes up.

And once upon a time the retail on all this was $9800😂
