Jun is back in town! I usually do a Q&A every other month, this one is a 2 for 1. If you guys have any questions for either of us feel free to ask. We did a video that will go live in the next day or so that will field a few more questions. I should get it up next week!
Here is a photo I’ll use for the thumbnail, photoshop wizards feel free to work your magic:
Having established a presence in Japan, do you think PSA is getting any significant exposure or market recognition there? If so, is it being able to come across as a serious and thrustworthy company to Japanese customers despite its frequent increases in processing times? (Japanese don’t come across as very tolerant to overpromise and underdelivery, curious to whether such action is seen over there as standard teething problems or a reason to avoid their business)
Can you guys discuss your perceived notion of online casual listings in Japan vs the US? In my perspective, US sellers seem to be more savvy and have more ‘professional’ pricing mechanisms. Am I skewing reality just because Japanese cards are usually cheaper than their English counterparts or do you feel that there is a genuine lack of price awareness in Japan as compared to the US?
Smpratte: With PSA clearly taking on more then they can handle at this time and also their lack of expertise with regard to error cards (no damage Ninetales) as well as fake 1st edition stamps, have you ever considered starting your own Pokemon card grading company? The grading industry could really use an expert looking at cards, rather than individuals just looking at card condition.
@smblack: With the expansion of PSA coming to Japan, is there talk among collectors about grading? I see more and more PSA listings on Yahoo Japan, and wonder if it’s growing popularity among the collectors.
@smpratte: Outside of the IG Pokemon Community, what are your biggest concerns with the hobby moving forward?
I have no idea if there’s a pre-existing answer to this question but at the very least not one I’m aware of at this point.
What was the motivation for Pokemon moving into the Thai market? With a population of 69 million and estimated 30th most spoken language worldwide surely there were other, more advantageous languages/cultures for Nintendo to try and move into? Is this just an opportunity to move more into the Asian market or is there an actual, more distinct reason for Thai being selected?
Edit: Ah lol, just building on your post there @mjisaacs, sorry, didn’t realise!
@ smpratte: Peanut Butter. Smooth or chunky?
@ smblack: Do you foresee the Thai Pokémon TCG adventure having a happy ending?
@ both: Favorite recent (2014-2019) Japanese promo card?
