Skyridge Reverse Holo Conversation

I have been doing a lot of research on the Skyridge reverse holo market (because I’ve been working on completing the set), and it is completely mind-boggling how low the supply is. I feel like the cards have dropped significantly in availability and increased in price steadily since I started following prices/activity daily 5-6 months ago. I have also noticed an increase in buyer activity within the market by 20-40% since May-June.

At any given time, there are about 710-740 reverse holos listed on eBay. That averages to about 5 listings per card in the set. However, it seems like there are a fair more crystal/rare reverses available than common/uncommon in terms of listing per card. For example, there is only one reverse Abra listed for $200 dollars right now, and only one fisherman listed for below $900. There aren’t even options to buy some of these cards in played/damaged condition. That seems completely insane to me considering these cards were released in a set. Even though sets like 1st Base or more valuable, there seems to still be more availability than the reverse holos in this set.

I haven’t been collecting for very long, so it’s hard for me to tell if this is a short term thing that’s due to Skyridge being a very popular set right now, if this has been true for longer than I’ve been following it, or if the set is really this scarce. All I know is that there are only a handful of cards I haven’t seen increase in value, and only a handful of cards I haven’t seen decrease in availability.

Any thoughts on this?

The set wasn’t mass produced. I’ve been getting a lot of requests for them.

That makes sense! I knew it wasn’t printed as much as most standard sets, but I assumed it was still printed to a fair degree

You are always going to see the ‘rarer’ cards like crystals more often as they are the premier cards of the set. Skyridge rev holos are abundant it is just that people are less likely to list them for sale since they are relatively low value compared to a bigger ticket item like crystal or regular holo. Also in terms of grading, PSA 9 Skyridge rev holos are very low demand the prices are usually not worth the time and cost to grade.

It still boggles my mind that some of those reverse holo’s actually sell so cheap! I started about 4years ago trying to complete full reverse sets of Expedition Base, Aquapolis & Skyridge and finally finished about a year ago; but damnn those things were hard to find. Was really lucky that the little child in me was amazed by the artwork and beauty of these reverses (+ i did not like the ‘normal’ ones) so i had a lot already before trying to complete them.

You gotta keep in mind that around the time these sets were released Pokemon wasn’t popular at all (I’m thinking the least its ever been) + a lot of people didn’t like the e-reader borders back then, within my circle (and the people that collected) nobody really bought these cards.

Add to the fact that Expedition Base set was really big and nobody shot for a masterSet (i mean 165 cards was a lot back then + no secret rares)- so people just focused on their LegendaryCollection or the Neo-era. Aquapolis&Skyridge gained even less attention and since those were the last run from WoTC so I can imagine they really weren’t overproduced. Not only is the artwork amazing, but there are some gem’s and secret stories being told in the artworks- especially Skyridge

I adore the sets and still flip through my binders once a week to see them shine, and looking at BoosterBoxPrices for these sets I can only imagine it’s only gonna get harder to get a fullReverse binder set- next to that people are also starting to grade them and try to sell 'm for an even bigger amount… not sure how that is gonna work out but it sure depletes the market for ‘raw’ reverses in decent condition.

Good luck on your collectingJourney and HMU if you need some- i might have some extra’s since i keep replacing 'm with better condition ones

I want in on that action too. Lol

I was trying to complete a Master Set, but with the time i ended up completing just a normal one with alot of reverse cards since the prices were just too high.

I PM’d you

I briefly considered doing a masterset for Expedition, Aquapolis, Skyridge, and Legendary Collection, but I quickly realised that would be way to expensive of a goal. Maybe if I get a substantial raise I can convince my wife to let me go for it haha

I really wish I would have jumped on this back in 20110 when I was going WOTC but was really wishy washy about the e sets and stopped at neo. Oops.
