Should the seller have disclosed this ? Normal defaults ?

So I recently bought a heavy 1st ed fossil pack (NM) on Ebay, and I found 2 defaults on the pack that were not disclosed by the seller (the defaults are pretty easy to see irl)

The first default is literally a hole under the tab and the other one is a discoloration line which is not a big deal. The hole under the tab is the one that I’m afraid of, since I’ve never seen this on a pack. Now, this do make me doubt the seller credibility and it makes me possibly think it has been tampered. (Note that the 2 defaults are on the top of the pack)

The problem with all of this, is that I wanted to sell this pack in a few years, and even if it’s not tampered, it would be an headache to sell, since I would need to disclose the defaults and buyers would hesitate.

I made this thread to see what would you do in my place and if the defaults are signs of tampering or look normal (sorry for bad grammar)

Your photo is very blurry.

Took a better one

Tough situation, I’ve seen WOTC packs have wholes on the sides to allow for air circulation, but never by the seal like that. If you’re not happy see if the seller is willing to accept a return. If not, I am sure the situation could be escalated through Ebay. I say you open it though :zipper_mouth_face:

Pretty sure that’s normal so the packs can let air out

The hole where the fold meets the back? Sure, isn’t common, but if you determine the crimps being unaltered/reglued, it would be considered a defect or flaw rather than a sign of tampering to where the pack is resealed.

Show us pictures of both bottom and top crimps, clear pics. The one provided looks fine-ish. Was the seller reputable (deals in pokemon, good history, high feedback)?

People reseal by introducing heat, such as an iron, and other home jobs to try to replicate the original factory seal. I’ve never seen one that doesn’t look sketchy. The crimps should look clean and neat. Even if the pack wasn’t stored properly. It can have creases and whatnot, but certainly never blurry or flattened looking crimp lines. Those little contours along the seam.

He had a great rep, but the only neutral rep he had was that he didn’t disclose a default (dent) on a card

That just means you are only noticing bad reseals, and the good ones are slipping past you

What’s a ‘default’? You keep referring to this and I have no clue what you’re talking about lol

And yeah, that is a sizeable tear in the foil of the pack. It’s probably not a sign that it was tampered with, but the seller absolutely should’ve disclosed that the pack had it. If it bothers you, I think it’s not unreasonable to request to return the pack.

I’m really sorry for the grammar I am French lmao but yea I think I’m gonna have a talk with the seller, because even if it’s not tampered, I’ll have a bad time trying to sell this in a few years

@trunkssu, based on the pictures you provided it honestly looks pretty darn good.

Looks pretty legit to me. An inquiry with the seller wouldn’t hurt though.

Update, I checked the pack again and there is also a slight opening in an area of the crimp (top of the pack).
And I tried to talk to the seller, I sent him a picture of the defects on the pack, and he replied 4 hours after asking me to describe them, and after I did that, he never replied (it has been 3 days).

Thanks for your participation on this thread, I’ll definitely try my best to return this

@trunkssu at a glance the pack looks fine… When you say there’s an “opening”, what are you referring to?

I can split the crimp open, in the area where the red arrow points

Honestly, I think the pack looks pretty normal to me.

Split open, so that you can see cards inside?

No I don’t think so but it’s deep, and what is more strange, is that this only happens on the top crimp, and all the others defects I’ve found are also located on the top of the pack.

The red spots are where the crimp splitting occurs + I’ll add that the seller has ghosted me for 3 days after I replied to him wanting me to be more precise about the defects, which I did

To be honest I needed more info too, because I was somewhat confused at what you were referring to, but I think I gathered what your concerns are…

The slightly split end you’re referring to at the edge of the pack seam is completely normal.

The split behind the flap is also normal, to a very specific degree.

The only slight issue which you referred to as discoloring I’ve found to exist on other packs, so I’d suffice it to say that’s probably ok as well.

When you take photos of objects that reflect, add more ambient light to help correct autofocus.

I did my best this time, I think you understand my concern now

Sorry for making this thread so long, I knew from the start this pack was sketchy, I applied a little bit of pressure and it is indeed opened.
This just shows that even if a seller has high rep, you always need to be careful, I think my eBay protection ran out, but I’m glad I can still escalate this to PayPal. Stay safe, and thanks again for all of your support !
