I once bought a base set box at a steal of a price (just before the boom), especially considering it was a green-winged box without country codes on the bottom. I decided to open it, but the packs were unlimited . . . I only opened one pack to confirm no shadowless cards. On the plus side, I got a Poliwrath and still have the other 35 packs stashed away. I’ve debating selling them or having a mass opening video at some point in the distant future.
Anyway, even when all the signs are right, always plan on the worst case scenario with sealed base product!
Used to be the hobby was all above board and reliable with mostly reputable people. Today you have to be careful with all the scamming, cracking, fake stamping etc. Those clear wrap shadowless boxes used to be 100% but now some people are removing the logos so can’t be totally certain anymore. Peeking under the flap helps though.
There’s no question now that the packs inside have shadowless artwork. I’ve checked conclusively.
I really don’t know what to do now. There’s a lot of options. One of the folks here wants it to open, weigh out and grade the holos and evo cards, grade the packs, and sell the mint empty box. They can gross 7-8,000usd lol.
Of course I’d like to maximize value but sometimes saving sealed product is the best way to do that.
On auction shadowless blisters are generally in the $100-$125 range, BIN can go for the higher $150-$200, while weighed loose packs around the $75-$100 range IMO from studying the market.
To have a confirmed, sealed box of 36 unweighed loose packs, Id at least put a price of $125 a pack at the low point, but would list a BIN for a booster box at or around, $150 a pack or around $5400 for box. There are so many examples of “possible” shadowless boxes on Ebay that have all the different variations of box art, ranging from the $2000-$3500, for a top dollar for the clear wrap, green wing, single country code boxes.
But in my opinion, having a confirmed box that is shadowless should at least fetch 2x what the top “possible” box fetches, being a general best offer sold price, of $2700*2=$5400 price point.
However with the .01% quantity in the market, its a completely seller price determined market if a box ever did surface.
Being that there is a black triangle box that had been up for nearly the $10k range, id have to imagine a seller would begin his listings at that price, and then slowly drop dependent on their time allotted to sell the box.
Sorry but those “shadowless” blisters or loose packs are almost never shadowless so basing price points off of them is silly. Pack art doesn’t guarantee shadowless, unlimited cards are in the blisters more than not.
Can you show me sold boxes of clear wrap, 1 country code & green wing boxes? Every box on ebay is either normal or has green wing with WOTC logo and all codes.
If a CONFIRMED sealed shadowless box (not just the pack art, but was part of a case that all had shadowless cards) went up for auction, I would expect a much higher selling price than $5K. Something like Gary’s, which isn’t confirmed, would fetch less.
A lot of speculation here. @xuzu - Both packs pictured contain unlimited cards.
Gary - we’d need a better picture to confirm, but yes - you can confirm by looking inside the box. TCG logo is not definitive and should not be used to judge if the packs have shadowless cards. The only thing TCG logo can do is confirm unlimited cards if on top of the pack.
Take 3-4 more pics of different angles of the packs inside the box and post them here.
I could cut a 1 to 2" slit in the wrap covering the flap with an exacto knife. Then I could cut the exposed booster pack and the top card and flip the small cut card piece to disclose the border of the card to see if it’s shadowless?
