Lost Thunder was the eight set of the SM era, released in English on November 2nd, 2018. It’s mostly based on the Pokémon Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon Pokémon games, and a bit on the Johto region, but apart from that it lacks identity, like most English sets. It does contain some new Prism cards, and a whopping nine Golden Tools full art cards.

Here are some of my favorites from the set:

Especially the Bayleef is amazing, with a beautiful background and scenery.

I also like the ‘I’ll fight you’ pose of Ditto.

This was the first prerelease I went to after getting back in the hobby. I remember it broke the set size record at the time. I wish it managed to keep that record longer rather than breaking set after record breaking set we’ve seen since. Overall, its quite a mid set though lol.

I rejoined the hobby in 2020 so I missed out on Lost Thunder but I do love this Zeraora I picked up off eBay about 3 years ago. I’ve kept it in the sleeve it shipped in ever since. Would love to pick up the Lugia full art one day to go with it.

It was a combination of 3 consecutive JP sets with different themes, making it impossible for TPCi to unify them under one coherent theme while also keeping up with the release schedule for players. So instead they went with “Lost” the return of Lost Zone mechanic (SM8 Super-Burst Impact), “Thunder” for Zeraora (SM7a Thunderclap Spark) and Lugia as the flagship
