The second set of the English XY era, released on May 7, 2014, based on the Japanese Wild Blaze set and the M Charizard-EX Mega Battle Deck, and therefore mostly focusing on Charizard, including Mega Charizard X & Y. This is the first set with Secret Rares of Mega Pokémon-EX. These Secret Rares would have Japanese texts in the artwork for all languages, even though the Japanese Ultra Rare Pokémon-EX have English texts and English and other foreign languages will have Japanese texts in the artworks for Ultra Rare Pokémon-EX.
For some reason, this Blacksmith cards feel as one of the most realistic artworks in the Pokémon TCG, especially from a distance. Almost feels like a photo rather than an artwork.
And just love the expressive attack pose and movement of the Druddigon.
I’m a sucker for full art Supporter cards, and these are both pretty good. I don’t think there is a single bad Milotic artwork from what I remember. The Pokémon Center Lady has been printed a bunch of times, but it was first released in this XY Flashfire set. And the Spheal and Golem are both also just solid artworks.
I feel like all seven Charizard, the focus of this set, are just a bit too generic. I’ve never been the biggest fan of the XY era Pokémon-EX, though.
Wasn’t a massive fan of Flashfire on release and still am not as of today but I have to appreciate it for the new Mega Attack Rares that it inspired. Can’t wait to get my UPC in this weekend!
I’ll have to echo comment about Kangaskhan and great colours, after spending countless hours watching Mega Kangaskhan on pink background ( Misty Terrain ) it’s hard not to like FA print.
Grew up during XY era and I can confidently say that the flashfire mega zard X was 100% the most desired card when we were kids. I think the only card that people liked better was when evolutions came out with the full art mega zard Y
