A question for the set collectors in the modern stuff, do you collect the reverse foil as well as part of your set collection?
hell yes, not a set without them!
I have been. Even though reverse holos are a pain in the ass to find in near mint condition, I’ve still been working on completing those in my binder collection.
I’m probably one of the few that don’t collect rev holos. My reasoning I now realize is foolish, but when I started, I only wanted one of each artwork. I didn’t see any reason for an entire set twice… Plus as a 12 year old, going after rev holos was not easy. Hard enough getting the regular sets at that point. But my view is still the same today. It’s more about the individual card art for me. Same reason why I don’t really like graded cards.
I actually don’t collect reverse holos either. Never have and never will. I have opened one of every single set’s boxes the past few years (less a couple 1st/unl. variants) and didn’t save reverse holos along the way for a few reasons.

I like having cards in my collection that I opened myself. It’d be impossibly expensive/time consuming to assemble self opened r.h. sets for all sets. (newest ones XY-current I easily could have but again didn’t care to.)

I’m not a big fan of the look of them and duplication of artwork as you mentioned. It’s messier to display them (IMO) too since not all cards have r.h. variants.

The all time best sets didn’t have reverse holos (base-neo destiny) so I don’t care to have them for the sets which I am not nearly as big of a fan of.
They are annoying…are annoying to get…take binder room. I do collect them though ha…im thinking of selling them though
parallels are love, parallels are life.
I didn’t do reverses when I initially started collecting sets. They are still the bane of my existence for set collecting. I prefer one of each art similar to @regigigagod. The 1st Edition stamp is preferable for me. I like how the stamp is more uniform and present throughout the entire set.
I do collect them now, but there was a time I thought they were irrelevant and ignored them.
The mirrors are a pain to collect as they are usually scratched.
I don’t really have any reverses from LC, or the E-Series sets and have them set up as a secondary goal given how scarce and expensive they are. Some of the EX series sets are getting pricey for the reverses, but all the other sets are pretty easily obtainable.
I didn’t like them when they first came out in Legendary Collection, but the patterns have gotten better over the years. I really like the energy-pattern ones and how they look together in a binder, so these days when I collect a set I usually go for the reverse holo set too.
