I’ve recently acquired a card which I feel has a small chance of selling for greater than £2,500. With that in mind, there are two hurdles which are holding me back from listing it on my own eBay account:
Royal Mail only compensates up to £2,500 for package loss.
GSP isn’t an option for sales above £2,000.
If I was to sell this on my own eBay account, what could I do to:
Ensure the buyer couldn’t win a fake claim and ultimately steal the item.
Be fully compensated if the delivery company loses or damages the item.
If there’s nothing I can do to 100% mitigate either of those risks, what alternative options do I have? Can I go through PWCC if I’m in the UK? Are there UK-based alternatives?
If you send through someone like parcelforce or FedEx I think you can insure packages for more than 2.5k. The issue is, however, that buyers can essentially scam you regardless of if it is insured or not. I would only sell to people with good feedback from other pokemon sellers
Thanks for the responses. I contacted PWCC yesterday and they got back to me to say they do accept international submissions and there are no additional costs involved. In fact, I may as well share their exact response:
Now I just need to decide whether submitting it to PWCC would be worth my while.
It’s worth it, but it’s a gamble. You may think it will earn 2500, but sometimes items underperform at auction and you might end up with something like 1500 after fees and converting from USD to pounds.
If I were you, I would see what kind of offers I get for the card first. You might get an easy sale or see there’s a lot of interest and you decide to take it to auction.
PWCC you will have the security but I can almost guarantee you will not get close to what you think or what your collection is worth. We’ve mentioned this before in another thread that unless it’s a high value card, you will most likely take a huge hit. Even though, what Gary said is probably your best, sell high and see if you can get offers. I understand about being scammed…
