Sample Pikachu Sells on Mercari

You’re looking at the western market viewpoint though. Many people and stores here will buy and sell high end cards raw all the time.

Idk if seeking to optimize the value of a card is uniquely western. If a JP shop can increase the value of a card by grading it, they grade it. Especially since PSA opened their new branch in Ota-ku.

I follow shops on YJ that dump newly graded lots each month, these owners run their business optimizing the value of minty raw collections.

If a card in a shop isn’t graded it’s because its likely not worth the grading fees, or it wouldn’t clear authentication.

I’m not saying literally nobody grades and sells, I’m saying that the number of stores and people that don’t outweigh the number that do.

Rime just posted a video of the set of E Reader Samples showing that they can all be read using a E Reader.

I saw some people say that readable dots means the card must be real, but why is that?

My understanding is its hard to fake a readable digital pattern that hasnt been clearly revealed before. Also the pattern has to be very specific to have actual scannable results (like a high complexity qr code) which is difficult to get right for cheap fakers.

It doesn’t prove authenticity, but it’s a strong indicator because of what Lyle mentioned. The more concerning point is that this assumption is only valid if nobody has access to the source files that contain high definition e-Reader codes.

For someone like Akabane to recreate these, he would need materials similar to what Pokemon used in the early 2000s in terms of ink/cardstock, the source file for each of the Sample cards, and an offset printer. I’m not suggesting that these are fake or that Akabane is going to print off a bunch of Sample cards, but it isn’t outside the realm of possibility in 2025. They are also potentially easier to forge because the major grading companies haven’t examined legitimate copies before.

Thanks for sharing this …

I’ve watched the video carefully and I could register the IDs & Large Dot Code applications.
I have to admit that it was kinda difficult due to the quality of the GBA screen was not good enough …

SpaceWorld IDs & Applications:

Abra (SpaceWorld)

Ironically, the video had enough quality to extract Abra’s attacks … (despite its e-Reader content is still a mystery)

SpaceWorld Abra (R-07-#) :japan:

Thanks to jpFox & rtas from E4 server I could know that Abra’s attacks are Teleport (テレポート) & Barrier (バリヤー). If someone is willing to translate the attack effects, I’d be grateful …

e-Reader cards are easily one of the most difficult cards to counterfeit … You need specific materials that are very difficult to get (and also expensive) … such a certain printer (you can’t do it with your office printer as far my knowledge goes), a type of cardboard that looks like Pokémon cards from e-Card era and, most importantly, extremely high quality scans of the e-Cards (very heavy files) where the dots can be actually seen without losing quality when zooming …

It’s not something that the average card counterfeiter is willing to do tbh …

True … requires also A LOT of patience … It’s not like printing a document in a paper … for printing a custom e-Card or e-Reader Dot Codes you require a lot of trials & attempts … If average Pokémon card counterfeiter decides to counterfeit e-Cards and make them look authentic, he/she will end losing money …

The SpaceWorld 2001 e-Cards were cards that nobody knew where they were and considered as lost. The high quality scans of these e-Cards & e-Reader data are private files. That being said, to counterfeit these e-Cards, it means that someone had access to these private files and took them … and also had access to special printing equipment & materials … It must have been someone in a higher position

Absolutely true … :100:

Considering the background regarding the Alpha Prototype cards & similars, I don’t discard the possibility … At this point I’m not suprised …
