RIP: Cards that "Got Away"

The holo bleed/“double holo” effect is what you are paying the premium for. Here’s an example.

The ones on the left have the holo bleed?

Yes, that’s correct.

That makes sense. I mainly collect 9’s because of that.

I would still get the normal one for 400 and save the 2600 us dollars on extra sparkles but i have to say that i dont know how rare these cards really are.
I once bought a shining magikarp and gyarados ps 9 and they were both double holo but i thought it was normal and sold them one year later😅

Oh okay, that one I definitely see a difference. Man but an extra 1-2k is wild. But that’s just how it goes

I agree with dyl 100%

Once you have them in hand and compare them to their regular holo counterparts, they are stunning to look at and appreciate. A lot of people, my self included, value these quite a lot and they are super fun to chase and hunt down

Is there any other way to tell these double holos apart than that deeper holo look? I don’t really see a bleed.

This is still probably the best guide:

If you search sold PWCC listings you see a Fan Club Magikarp that sold for like a hundred fifty bucks… I paid 4.5k for a 7.5 quality card.

Hurts my soul…

Are you referring to these sales? This Magikarp is mislabelled as a Fan Club although it is actually the set card from Neo 3. Notice the holo background, no gold embossed Karp and the triple star rarity symbol.

I checked PSA’s site and apparently it still hasn’t been fixed.

Just today I remembered a potential buy that I passed on eBay. Japanese Goldstar Rayquaza, Latias and Latios all PSA 10 for 3500 USD…Was a lot of money at that time and I did not feel comfortable about it…

That is hilarious! Those are the ones I recall seeing, but I never bothered to check that it was actually the promo. How can PSA mess up that bad? lol

In 2017 an old user on this forum had a psa 10 unl gs ray and mew for sale for $100 each. I messaged them and bought the ray and then asked to buy the mew about 3 hours later and it had sold. At the time this didn’t seem so bad but looking back i have no idea why i didn’t just ask to buy both cards at the same time.

Unfortunately, I couldn’t get a screenshot since the sale is no longer on Mercari. Around four to fivr years ago, there was a PSA 8 Hold Star Torchic for around $400-450. I thought I could find one a little cheaper. I went back to the listing two years ago and of course it was already purchased.

PSA 10 WHF Pikachu 1997. Won on auction for $305. Never paid bc I was going through a breakup and took most of my time and money moving her out and cancelling so many things. Thought I’d get it again at that price and was wrong
