Real OR Fake? Help Authenticating Poncho pikachu cards

Hello All, I’m looking for some opinions on a recent purchase I made from japan. I do apologise on the pictures as I am waiting on them to arrive but would massively appreciate some more experienced collectors opinions on if they think they’re real or fake. I will be getting them authenticated once they arrive either way but maybe seeing a view from other peoples perspectives might help me spot the faults and could help me for buying in the future, or maybe put my mind at ease if they think theyre genuine lol.

Many thanks in advance

We’d need to see the back and some other angles to be sure.

I have one of these that looks great on the front, but the back is totally wrong.

You can also go onto Etsy and find proxies of these cards. Compare them with those you purchased.

I do have a one more pic of them but its masked by bubble wrap sadly, I will drop it down below but its looking like I’ll have to wait until they arrive. Thanks for your input jeverstones. True MVP :heartpulse:

Luckily i’ve ordered some bulk along with the ponchos so the shipping isn’t as rough haha

I cant comment on the realness of the cards however I would advise you to take the the cards out of the screwdowns/one touch and just put them in toploaders/soft shells.

In my experience screwdowns have too much space in them and have a higher risk of damaging the card then toploaders/softsleeves.

That will be the very first thing I do on arrival  I’m glad its not just me who thinks the magnetic phony slabs are just a complete hazard to the card inside. If a top loader would fit inside I don’t think It would be so bad but i’m sure it would look messy. I appreciate you taking the time out of your day to check out my post 0ean :heartpulse:

By any chance could you explain why you think they’re fakes?
Thanks for your input leaf

In my opinion, these cards are fake. The colors and saturation are off and I don’t think it’s because of the lighting or picture quality. The corners also look inaccurate in dimension (i.e., too broadly rounded) or they were trimmed.

The slight colour difference was putting me off honestly. Yet I was trying to factor in the lighting. I never really took much notice of the corners but i can see where you’re coming from on that Dyl. I’ll still take them to a couple shops near me and hope its different in person. Thanks for your input man I really appreciate you taking the time to look. :heartpulse:

The color shading is way off, but it could be due to your camera / lighting, or upload quality. Hard to tell just from photos, just saying what is obvious at first glance.

appreciate it man, no wrong answers here chiefmacky.
thanks for taking the time to look at the cards and give your opinion

Real question is… was the price too good to be true?

I would say so lol, I guess that’s the risk I took in buying them. they arrive at the middle man next week in japan then i’ll be getting them on a 7 day delivery to the UK. Then i’ll look around at some local shops for some opinions of authenticity. The seller is also selling more ponchos as of today as well as both mario and luigi pikachus so i’m getting a little doubtful he has so many unreal cards at hand.

To soothe the heartache of just shipping potential fake cards I have bought some bulk cards from japan to go along with them, so at least i’ll be able to go through some retired cards ( approx 3-3.5k cards) and make postage worth while.

Quite a few red flags imo

My initial thought when I saw the photos of the cards were that they seemed a bit fake, but it’s honestly impossible to tell from a single photo because you could chalk it up to quality of the photo or the lighting. The star pattern showing throughout the entire card even though lighting is reflecting off some of the stars makes me think they are fake.

But, I’ve seen some photos that did this and people have claimed they were real. When you get them, can you share a video of the cards with light reflecting off different parts of the card?

Thanks for your input Phil, the holographic of the card made me quite skeptical as the lighting isn’t good yet the holo is so potent.
I’ll be sure to keep you updated and send somme pics and videos of the cards in a week or two once they arrive man.

P.S i can also send you some photos of the most recent auctions the seller has uploaded too right now if you have time to look? i’m not going to buy them but maybe seeing some more of what the seller is selling might give a better decision on if all the cards they’re selling is fake?
Thanks again for your input Phil

If the photos are similar quality and lighting, it’ll probably be too hard to tell. It’s probably best to wait to see the cards in-person and get a few eyes on them

What did you pay for them? @Smiggy

lets just say it was cheap enough to not lose any sleep over if they’re fake and cheap enough to be speechless if they’re real.

The seller has uploaded 3 more auctions of poncho pikachus in sets of twos and the prices are over triple of what i paid, He also has mario and luigi pikachus up for roughly the same price i paid for the ponchos and it ends in under 24hrs. I would bid on them if I already had the two ponchos verified but i’m not taking a bigger risk than I already have.
