Helpful Considerations: Japanese is the only way? English is the true heart of Pokemon? Fandubs are good enough? Mute, verbal language ruins the memories?

You beat me to it, was about to quote this from an earlier QotD. :winking_face_with_tongue:

But to give a more serious answer: Japanese (with English subtitles). Not only are they the original intended voices, but they’re also released a few weeks earlier than the English dubs.
I actually used to watch the anime in the English dub, but eventually they were 3-4 weeks behind, so I switched from dubs to subs (midway through the XY era). Haven’t looked back. (I also watch all other anime in Japanese with English subs anyway.)

I wish it was a few weeks lol. Currently the English dub is about four months behind in the best case (UK) and the US will be about 6-7 months behind when they get their first batch of Horizons season 3 in January. And then there are other dubs like our German one being 9 months behind or the ones being the worst off who only get whole seasons on Netflix like Czech being around a year behind.

I do not mind the English VA but I think the original has just better back ground score and monster sounds.

However, the joy of watching the anime in native language was something else. It was not the best quality but the opening theme was awesome and some of the inside jokes which do not cross over the language barrier were simply amazing and make for a really great memory.

Cheers!

English. It’s funny hearing Brock hit on every woman he comes across when you have the show playing in the background.

Reading this thread so far, it seems like the Japanese version is worth a try

English or Japanese are okay with me. However, once you get familiar with the voices used in each season, switching between dub and sub can be difficult for your brain.
