Today’s Question:
QotD: What is your preferred unofficial media to enjoy Pokemon?

Helpful Considerations: Fan made novels? Fan made video games? Bootleg card sets in other styles? Fanmade… um… manga? Fan casted video series?

Ive really wanted to check out some unofficial fanmade games but without having them be portable it is difficult for me to get time to dedicate and appreciate all that has gone into them. With that in mind, I always enjoyed looking through galleries of Pokemon fanart with a gijinka style. Something about the inspirations of making pokemon human/anthropomorphic with a needlessly excessive amount of details is always impressive to me.

Theorymoning great fakemon designs I find on the internet. Constructing typings, stats, abilities, level up moves, movepools around them, trying to infuse them into particular gens.

A demonstration. Rock/Fire Tyranitar would be insanely cool and makes a lot of sense. The internet agrees with me.

How would I go about this?

Stats

100 → 100
134 → 104
110 → 120
95 → 150
100 → 85
61 → 41

Ability: Active Volcano - Lowers the opponents Accuracy by 4 stages and inflicts BURN when hit by a Water or Ground type move.

Rock/Fire is a beyond foul defensive typing but this ability would turn Tyranitar into a metagame-defining suicide pest with a massive offensive presence. Maybe the BURN should only happen if Tyranitar is knocked out? Below 10% HP? I live for these considerations.

41 speed puts this Tyranitar out of the range of it’s DD/Boah/Scarf Johto brethren. 104 physical attack combined with a fantastic offensive type combo ensures a constant threat level to much of the metagame. The obnoxious ability gives it an edge against the ever-present Water types, a way to set up other sweepers, and the 150 special attack means that the STAB Fire onslaught will get solid chip on even the bulkiest special walls. Hidden powers and sneaky physical coverage abounds.

Maybe some signature moves?

Rock Rain (10/75/–) A Rock Slide that can’t miss, the one thing holding nearly every viable Rock type move back. No flinch chance but it’s not like you’re outspeeding much anyway.

Sector Collapse (5/200/100) A Gen 5 Rock type Selfdestruct that inflicts the Accuracy and BURN effects of the ability, assuming the opponent survives this devastating attack. Tyranitar faints as a result of course.

I do enjoy seeing original Fakemon, as long as they remain digital and aren’t used for fake products. truegreen7 is a great YT channel imo, where he has a lot of different themes to create Fakemons. He also regularly invites other artists who have similar channels for collabs.

Some examples:

Four artists evolve each other’s Fakemon, to create a 3-stage evolution + Mega:

Four artists were given the same description, and created Fakemon based on that:

Nine Pokétubers give nine different things (power; environment; stats; personality; colors; body-type; height; ability; and type), and Truegeen7 creates a Fakemon based on all that:

Using existing Pokémon silhouettes to create completely new Fakemon:

Five artists create a character and its ace Fakemon:

etc. etc.

His videos may be a bit long, but since I enjoy casually having YT videos on in the background while I’m mostly just reading posts here or chatting in Discord, it doesn’t matter too much.

Yes, Truegreen’s content is very enjoyable.

I recently enjoyed starting the Pokémon Unbound game.

Pokemon Unbound is such a good romhack. I need to resume playing it but it really does feel like it could be an official Pokemon game (along with stuff like Gaia and Prism).

I love romhacks with entirely new regions as they feel fresh and always manage to capture the excitement of starting a new Pokemon adventure.

Pokemon showdown, I used to sprite for infinite fusion, and uh, smogon/pokemon perfect but i guess that kinda comes with the territory of pokemon showdown.

Fanmade pokemon art is so good. They give more depth to the pokemon than normal pokemon art, and I honestly like using them as references!

I’m also leaning in fan art but also fan made 3d printed figures (if that counts), so cool to see the innocent original forms turn into ferocious adult pokemon!
