Sorry to chip in so late, but couldn’t the shop owner file a written statement and send it to the police to start investigating? This type of shit pisses me off and I’m sure they would’ve broken some laws. Unfortunately, the problem would be, does the local prosecutor want to lay charges?
Taking advantage of someone generally isnt illegal, just in bad taste which isnt something that can be prosecuted.
I read it wrong. In some places, deception against someone who is vulnerable or which there’s a special relationship of trust (caretaker, lawyer-client, accountant-client, etc.), could be a criminal matter. It’s more than just taking advantage of someone as they’re abusing a position of trust.
So you’re right, if it’s a trade deal then there’s nothing criminal. Even if the State laws have a reasonable person’s test.
Edit: This is the closest federal law there is regarding defrauding someone of intellectual disability. Criminal Financial Exploitation: § 22-933.01. Financial exploitation of a vulnerable adult or elderly person.
I might be interpreting this wrong.
Out of all the weird and wonderful interactions I’ve had in the hahbee, being gaslit for refusing to eat shit from someone is certainly up there. Someone attacks you, you counter, and now you’re the asshole. I’m not used to catfights.
Also, the amount of times I’ve had to look up urban dictionary or reddit to try and understand what the hell hahbeeists are even talking about is absurd.
Forgot one for this
Ash winning the Pokemon World Championship.
It’ll go down as the “had to be there” alongside Pokemon Go’s launch in my eyes. If you were there from the start of Ash’s journey all those years ago, it was just special.
We watched it the second an english dub was available, even though it’s just a cartoon I was so pumped for him which is a very strange thing to admit.
I’m glad that the Pokemon company had the sense to move on and they absolutely did Ash justice as well. I’m expecting him to pop up in something again down the line but it’ll be a welcome return if they give him a decent rest.
And yes I know it’s Red and not Ash (calm down nerds), but think the concept would be a cool revisit for Ash in the future!
If this turns out to be real, this would be the most absurd thing I’ve witnessed (having been in the hobby since only February).
What mini decks are we talking about?
@PkmnTrnAnt Your post reminded me of a similar story that happened in my area a long time ago.
A shop owner was a HUGE collector, much bigger than anyone around us knew, but he was autistic and the shop was funded as a fun project by his parents who were apparently super wealthy.
The owner died and the grieving family went to one of the local yugioh players for help with the shop. Little did they know that the yugioh guy was a degenerate scumbag and was banned from every other shop within like a 50 mile radius. What this guy found was not only rare yugioh stuff, but binders of pokemon ultra rares, promos, and boxes and boxes of not only WOTC and ex era, but ADV/PCG booster boxes as well.
The yugioh guy proceeded to tell the family of the owner that the stuff was worthless, and would pay $10,000 for the inventory and the retail space, which was paid in advance for the next five years. The family sadly agreed.
Yugioh guy asks someone I know with help sorting it all. Supposedly one day, when going through boxes, he finds a stack of Japanese cards, which included every gold star, including Umbreon and Espeon, and a Tamamushi Magikarp. Yugioh guy goes “are those rare?” and my friend nearly faints.
They had a falling out because the collection didn’t have an Illustrator. The yugioh guy was under the impression that the collection had “every card” and because there was no Illustrator, he assumed the guy I know stole it and they ended things on bad terms.
This is sad to read. A shame when people abuse trust like that.
Well that’s scummy I hope that guys personal tcg collection burns
Thank you!
While browsing through some old forum threads, I stumbled across this gem in
Daelum’s Collection thread:
Not strange at all. I too enjoy pizza when admiring my illustrator.
Thats a hilariously odd post only outdone by the outlandishness of everyones casual happiness to what is now considered the top of all time grail card in the hobby. No disbelief but simple “nice job getting the card”, it really highlights it as a different time with a different mentality from the current modern day collector.
What would later be the PSA 10 illustrator came from very humble beginnings
Beat me to it but yeah that’s the Logan Paul copy
Honestly, I know I hate on CGC a lot, so I’m going to hate on them some more. Bullet point list for brevity but I know I’ll miss something
• originally had an impossibly difficult grading standard. 8.5 meme anyone?
• started to grade more leniently around the release of their population report launch. Ratio of 10s increased seemingly overnight
• changed their grading standards to absorb 9.5s into 10s while some had insider information before announcement.
• prerelease Raichu
• Suspicious pump and dump scenarios with their label
• changing standards on what can be graded (pretty much everything). Non factory cut sheets with free grading to submitter
•omega mystery boxes (scam lottery box with extremely poor ROI)
• prototype cards
• European (Danish?) ‘trophy cards’
• Sloppily researched findings, no analysis, no (reliable) provenance.
•Blanket statements without apology or addressing the issue publicly
