The Question of the Day is a way to facilitate community discussion to help members ponder the unanswered questions of the world that are somehow relating to the hobby. Questions are many times open ended and up to interpretation. Feel free to post your thoughts in as much or as little detail as you’d like.
Helpful Considerations may or may not help some people focus their answer, these are blurred to not bother those who have their own ideas.
Today’s Question: QotD: Following the success of Moonbreon, TPCI becomes interested in matching Pokemon with a celestial idea. What Pokemon matches what celestial concept?
Helpful considerations: Lunatone and Cosmoem are simple, what other pokemon fits the concept to match something in space? Does a mega evolution match jupiter? What about constellations? A specific related star?
This is an interesting question, I keep trying to match things that are easy like tauros and Taurus but in the idea of something that would also match in the Pokemon world a little more in depth, Im thinking of the Caterpie line being related to the constellation of Orion. Caterpie itself being the belt with the stars representing segments, the bow representing Metapod, and orions arm and club representing butterfree wings?
I wonder if anyone here is into astronomy who can share some interesting takes.
Its moonbreon because its price went and mooned, and was just a double entendre because there was a literal moon it was reaching for, much like the price.
There are already tons of pokemon that deal with space themes
I may have missed a few. Anyhow, I do think there are some really nice space cards already. The Orbeetle Vmax Galarian Gallery card is a great one!
Due to the dicey politics between Deoxys and Rayquaza on the elite forum I must abstain from making comments on this touchy subject, but both do spacey cards.
I’m fond of the overall space themes explored in generation 3. Heck, mossdeep city is all about space!
They will take The Office Joke Pokemon, a Pokemon designed solely to celebrate/mock their income-to-effort ratio, and they will place him on Pluto with his friend New Horizonmon, symbolizing how far they’ve come since the days of Moonbreon hardship.
This was the first thing that came to mind when I read this question! Doing some artwork of a Pokemon in the foreground while a related constellation shines in the background could be interesting! It’s a concept they’ve clearly given thought to with merchandise, so it could be a logical step to integrate the idea into the TCG.
A Lugia card that also utilizes the full moon as a celestial object in the illustration would be pretty great actually and a good way to get beyond thicc Lugia which in my opinion is a great looking card but falls short of what I expected when Paradigm Trigger / Silver Tempest were announced
Itd be cool to see Celesteela next to another spaceship in space with poke-nauts looking out the window with a rotom in the ship serving as the central hub with its face on the monitor.
