PSA Potential Fake Stamp - Resolved

I think this seller link has been shared somewhere in the ebay garbage thread but I wanted to make sure it got some exposure here for anyone unaware:

www.ebay.com/usr/bergey202?_trksid=p2047675.l2559

It appears at least one of these shadowless Charizards had been fake stamped and then rubbed off most likely due to a botched stamp job. Not 100% certain if the seller is the stamper or if they are reselling a fake they received, but they are very suspect due to the abundance of shadowless charizards in their possession. It doesn’t look like they have a history of selling any “first ed” charizards, however.

What are you talking about here?

Charchu’s comment about Fake 1st edition stamps was deleted off Psa’s official Twitter.

Yeah the guy bought it that way. It was originally in a GMA case and I pointed it out to him. He cracked it out of the case and is selling it raw now.

@fazool was there any updates on this when you explained to them the stamp was fake?

all updates and information were posted here. I told them about the stamp, they broke it out of the case confirmed, I included every picture here and examples, telling them to look at the font, the ink smudge, the placement etc.

ACCORDING TO PSA, it is real

it should arrive this week and I will repost pics of it in the new case. then contact scott

This is great news. Now I can finally send in my 1st edition base Charizard - fingers crossed for an authentic PSA 8!

Did they get rid of all the old graders and hire new ones? It seems like lately (start of the year to now) that they have gone really soft on grading. I have gotten cards back that have print lines in the holo or strong whitening on the back and they will get 10s A few cards i would consider a strong 8 have come back a 10… I’ve actually started looking at the condition of graded “10s” a lot closer now before i buy them because of this. In the past, a print line, or a good white spot on the back was a automatic 9 from my past experience. It seems like they are slacking now…

Hey all,
So since we are on the topic can someone tell me if they think this is fake? The seller is from my hometown, Melbourne, Aus so I’ll ask if I can see the card in person…
Looking at the page the card is being sold from a 0 feedback seller and if you look at the bidding it looks like he has made another 0 feedback account and has bid on his own item.

I’m thinking it could be a fake stamp and he has got it custom sealed so it won’t run off? Anyway, that’s just a theory. On the last photo if you zoom in on the 1st ed stamp it looks like it is minus 1-2 degrees off centre. Also the ‘T’ in edition looks a bit odd. Can anyone see any clear signs that the cards are fake. All very suss…

@spinch they’re fake stamps.

What in particular is the giveaway? I’m having a difficult time telling because the resolution of the picture is so low.

Honestly, I can tell from all the images, but if you look at the last picture the T is particularly bad. The stroke on the top is angled. As for me I can tell by the 1 inside the circle, it comes from trying to determine if a card is thick or thin stamped over many years.

Hi all - after reading this thread my anxiety has intensified - however I “luckily” I guess? cannot afford any of the TOP TIER cards that could potentially be altered/faked. I was just browsing my cards anyhow, it seems like all my 1st edition base stamps are located a little more to the right of the card than my fossil/team rocket 1st edition stamps, is this normal? Thanks!

@muddy take a soft piece of cloth and apply firm but not damaging pressure to the stamp, rub it two to three times. If it’s fake it’ll alter the stamp. I won’t explain why but even dried stamp will come off with enough vigor. If you’re buying them online you obviously can’t do this, but stamp removal is the best test.

*edit, you can also apply damped cotton swabs to it, the card won’t get damaged by a very small amound of liquid but the stamps won’t last. Do this one with extreeme caution as you can damage the card is your cotton swab is too wet. I recommend wetting the swab then pressing it against a towel to dry it up enough to not damage the cards. Don’t use too much pressure either.

Thanks cullers, but I mean for cards I’ve bought already slabbed by PSA. From different sellers and different times, all of my 1st edition base cards appear to be about 0.5mm to the right, in comparison to 1st edition Rockets/Fossil

@cullers I’m at work at the moment so I can’t post photos, but I put up a thread in the collections section with all my cards, hopefully you can see what I’m talking about there

Apologies for spam, but I’ve checked online on google images and it appears that what I was saying is pretty consistent. 1st edition base set stamps are about 0.5-1mm closer to Pokemon description on the right, as opposed to subsequent 1st edition stamps.

Yeah that’s normal muddy.

sorry for the slow update. some very important irl stuff came up and I unfortunately had to wait an extra day or two to get back to this.

here are some pictures of the re-cased card. I tried to scan it, but my scanner quality is worse than my phone by a mile >__>
