Can we make a forum topic on how to spot the first ed fake stamps? I asked last time this exact situation came up, only it wasn’t graded. Now that it looks like one has made it through PSA this is worrisome. I really haven’t researched it enough to be able to spot a good fake stamp. I mostly only deal with graded cards so i haven’t put a lot of thought into it. I (and i’m sure a lot of others) Would learn a lot from a post like that and potentially save us all some headache!

the issue with revealing too much is it makes it easier to correct the mistakes. In general the stamps will rub off, they’re not centered and their fonts are off. Beyond that I don’t want to say how to tell as you’ll catch 99.9% of them by checking for those tells.

Does anyone have any pictures of confirmed fakes that would support his or her conclusion that this one is probably a fake? (I’m not seeing the support for the conclusion that it’s more probable than not that this one is fake: After all, PSA already graded it and (purportedly) determined it to be authentic, and we all know that First Edition stamps are not always consistent.)

Other than pictures of other stamps for comparison (or memories of other stamps for comparison?) is there any other evidence people are considering when drawing this (fairly strong) conclusion?

Edit: added the word ā€œpurportedlyā€

1st edition stamps can vary, as in thick/thin/grey stamp/partial stamped,

they can not be off centered (no off centered stamp has ever had the correct font), or have the wrong font and smudging is a big concern coupled with the previous effects

all the evidence you need is our experienced members telling you its a fake

Pretty much you can compare them to known examples of legit ones instead of fake ones. But if you’re not convinced I’m sure fazool will sell it to you for 500;)

haha gary .__.

update: though not from PSA =(

I was able to find the seller who originally sold me the card. he has continued to do this with almost no reprucussions a full year after I bought the card in May of 2016

www.ebay.com/sch/marcdelvi/m.html?_nkw&_armrs=1&_ipg&_from&LH_Complete=1&LH_Sold=1&rt=nc&_trksid=p2046732.m1684

here is the sold listings. He finally has a small amount of recent negative feedback…but I am truly sick to my stomach

All those stamped shadowless cards… I have no words…

Shipped in plastic case with the only screw glued. Can’t get the card out.

Sorry but this particular feedback actually made me laugh
Poor man’s PsA case x)…

And ehh i suppose that eliminates all possibility of legitimacy.

did you send it off to be graded by psa? If. It what did you do when you realised it was fake?

No I didn’t send it to psa. Once it was out of the gma case the stamp rubbed off with my thumb. Thankfully the seller refunded me!

@fazool I would follow up your e-mail to PSA with a link to this sellers history. It helps tell your side of the story more and definitely increases the chances of this being fake stamped. Be sure to follow up here and best of luck.

This is a very interesting case and could potentially help others to stay away from this kind of scam. Do you guys mind if I copy the pic and post it on my FB group to warn others of this scam.

PM Fazool and ask.

Or you could just post a link to here.

I’ve added this seller to our Blacklist. Hopefully PSA compensates you in full as they should since they graded the card.

I did, he gave me permission, thanks.

Will do

it’s been almost 4 days since I’ve contacted PSA without a response. The auto response email says to allow 72 hours maximum before contacting again and that has since passed. If there is no response by Monday I guess I am just going to have to call and complain =(
