PSA Grading Question

Hi everyone,

First post here on E4. I have a First Edition Team Rocket Raichu that looks absolutely flawless, but I know you can’t always tell everything by the naked eye. When the holo is placed under a flashlight you can see two minor scratches (probably just a flaw right out of the pack as many WOTC cards are) that are invisible without a bright light. You can’t even see it under a lamp light.

My main question is: How scrutinous is PSA for that kind of condition? Do cards like these still have a shot at a 10 or are they almost always 9s? I don’t have any experience in grading. The extent of my knowledge is from E4 and smpratte’s videos. Thank you for your help.

If it’s flawless to the naked eye and flawless under a lamp light then it’s a definite 10. PSA doesn’t use flash lights.

Thanks Gary. I wonder what would be the worst possible 10 that you could receive? Have you ever been surprised at getting a 10 before?

If a 10 is really bad it’s likely a mis grade

Only misgraded ones like if the grader overlooked something.

How often do those mistake happen?

Hopefully very rarely?

But in all honesty PSA has the guarantee for a reason; if you bought something from someone that they misgraded, they will refund you the difference in grades!

Incorrect.
“the Guarantee does not apply to, and cannot be utilized by, the original submitter (or the original submitter’s agents, employees, affiliates or representatives) of the graded card.” So if they grade your card too high, you get nothing.

Actually I see why you got confused with my sentence, I worded it poorly. I assumed that gotdundee is more worried that they would buy a misgraded PSA 10 that should have been a 9 hence why they would ask that type of question…

However, I guess I’ve over assumed because I thought it was obvious…I’ve never heard in my life and on efour forums, where the first original submitter complained that they graded a card that they thought it was a PSA 9 and got a PSA 10 and demanded PSA to give them a refund on the difference. That never happens.

Assumptions on my part as well! I would gladly send my overgraded 8 back for the difference of $350 if I could.

Haha yes, I guess different perceptions/experiences of the same question results in different opinions!
Good catch though! I might have confused gotdundee if you did not intervene
