PSA Destroyed my PSA 10 Lenticular Deoxys

This wasnt the news I wanted to hear but it happened, PSA damaged my PSA 10 Lenticular Deoxys while it was getting reholdered. The card was impacted during encapsulation process and was deemed a PSA 6. Now they are saying that “Fair Market Value” for the card is $20,000. With the most recent comp being a public sale of $45,000 Feb 22, 2026 and I have no idea how their evaluation would make any sense. Multiple people have told me the Deoxys is $60k+ and I personally have an offer over that. PSA fix this issue.

So when its them damaging cards they’ll reference ancient comps to determine FMV, but when its us grading cards they’ll cherry pick comps from days ago to justify upcharges

lovely.

I’m so sorry this happened, what a disaster

More evidence to stay as far as possible from the reholdering service.

Sorry this happened to you. I’d be absolutely furious.

I’d fight like hell for proper compensation. Maybe you can use some of those funds to pick up a 9 later down the line.

Supremely sorry that this happened to you man. PSA is a dumpster fire right now. Yet another reason to steer clear.

Negotiating with PSA CRC is like negotiating with the guy who messages you on ebay to take the transaction off ebay. They start citing all of the lowest sales, completely ignoring any sales to the contrary.

Last CRC issue I had, I literally showed them the fanatics comp, my proof of wire to fanatics, and they’re like “nahhh that’s not market price, market price is X". So I literally bought a PSA card from fanatics, noticed it was damaged, PSA agreed it was a PSA 5, I provided them proof of wire to fanatics, they declined the comp, and I was out 4 figures. Some financial guarantee huh?

The best advice I can give you is to delete this post and fight like hell for the money back. I say delete this post not to not spread awareness or to stop PSA bashing, but I would wait to do any awareness spreading until after the issue is resolved. I’d hate for you sharing this at the beginning of whatever happens to bite you in the ass later.

This is basically the TLDR for every reholdering post I see. I won’t be reholdering anything until I hear overwhelmingly different information.

So sorry this happened @bvotcg, what an absolute pain. With the values at play in this scenario, it may legitimately be worth consulting with a lawyer to get everything out of this that you can. Wishing you patience and the best of luck getting this sorted!

Pretty sure that was happening years ago as well

Relevant sections from their terms of service:

10. Lost, Stolen, or Damaged Items. PSA will exercise reasonable and ordinary care in handling items submitted for authentication, grading, review, or reholdering. However, if PSA determines, in its sole discretion, that your item submitted to PSA for PSA Services was lost, stolen, or damaged while in the possession or control of PSA, except as otherwise noted in these Terms (see, e.g., Section 18), PSA will compensate you as provided in this Section 10 based on the degree of damage or loss, up to the fair market value of the item at the time of loss as determined by PSA standard procedures, which may include filing a claim with our insurance carrier. Regardless of the fair market value of your item, the actual compensation you are eligible to receive from PSA will not exceed the Maximum Insured Value of the applicable Service Level. IN NO EVENT SHALL PSA’S TOTAL LIABILITY, WHETHER CAUSED BY THE ACTIVE OR PASSIVE NEGLIGENCE OF PSA OR OTHERWISE, EXCEED THE LESSER OF THE FAIR MARKET VALUE OR THE MAXIMUM INSURED VALUE OF THE ITEM. WE RESERVE THE RIGHT, IN OUR SOLE DISCRETION, TO DETERMINE THE FAIR MARKET VALUE FOR AN ITEM BY ANY MEANS AS WE MAY DETERMINE. PSA may elect, depending on the condition of a damaged item, to either (a) return the item to you and compensate you for the reduction in value due to damage, or (b) retain the item and pay the maximum liability available under this section.

25. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution. To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, and notwithstanding anything to the contrary in the User Agreement, you acknowledge and agree that the PSA Services are delivered and the Terms are accepted in the State of California and it is the intention of the parties that it be governed by and construed in accordance with the substantive laws of that State, without regard to conflicts of laws principles. EXCEPT WHERE PROHIBITED, THE DISPUTE RESOLUTION AND ARBITRATION SET FORTH IN THE USER AGREEMENT SETS FORTH THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF THE DISPUTE RESOLUTION PROCESS AND ARBITRATION AGREEMENT FOR ANY AND ALL DISPUTES, CLAIMS, AND/OR CAUSES OF ACTION ARISING OUT OF RELATING IN ANY WAY TO THE TERMS AND THE PSA SERVICES.

When submitting, you agree to their terms of service, so you agreed to PSA determining the fair market value at their sole discretion, and arbitration to resolve disputes.

Unlucky this happened, but wouldn’t expect PSA, a for-profit company, to pay out based on a single sale, private sale, or what people on Instagram think it’s worth.

I want to provide a useful contribution here, so if I were you I’d refer to @GiosHideout’s thread from 2022 in which he got a legal team involved for basically the exact same case of PSA damaging his PSA 10 Demo Pack during reholdering (though PSA tried to conceal the damage in his case). It is at least worth reading about his experience because at the end of the day he was successful in getting his market value

I just had this happen! They used 2 February sales from Mercari Japan to justify a $600 upcharge on a PSA 10 Japanese southern island Mew… It’s wild how they used comps from almost a year ago for OP yet totally disregarded comps I provided from only a couple months ago. Even crazier, their own website says the card is worth $823.

I’m sorry this happened @bvotcg. There has never been a worse time to grade cards than right now. The consumer bears all the costs and risks.

OP, if PSA doesn’t resolve with full amount, I would ask the lawyer that the other post used. Seemed like it resolved fast for him.
