Okay, but I’ll bite - putting aside the fact that once upon a time this card sold for less (and that to some extent the prices for all of the cardboard we discuss here are nuts) why is this price point for Brock even remotely surprising given that it’s a PSA 10 1st edition WOTC holo and it has the lowest population in all of Gym Heroes / Gym Challenge?
We should all understand the difference it makes when a card is the lowest pop. This is why Jungle Vaporeon has been selling for $3k, 5-6x what Flareon (which has the highest Jungle pop) sells for. It’s why T17 sold for $10-12k or whatever it was. It’s why someone on E4 recently offered $7500 for a PSA 10 1st Base Chansey but still couldn’t find any sellers. It’s why Lapras routinely sells for over $2k despite having a population more than double that of Brock.
Not to mention, it would actually make sense for a Brock holo to be desirable, as he was one of the most prominent characters in the anime.
it was hard to get this card even in 2017 when i was collecting the gym trainer holos in 1st edition. you had maybe 1, at most 2, listed at a time. but the massive 10x since 2017 for this psa 10 copy is pretty nuts, but if you move the emotions aside and analyze the #, very much in line with market trends overall. it’s just not many people realized that the brock card is in the same tier as these jungle vaporean, chansey, etc. you ALWAYS have cards/sets fly under the radar.
There’s a simple explanation for this. Many people ONLY rely on past sales data of a card when it comes to making sales and that includes sellers.
But sellers who wise up to the importance of population reports and general availability can adjust their asking price to account for those factors. In more recent times I think sellers have been more savvy when it comes to understanding the importance of population reports and availability.
Pfft, the price for that Magneton clearly has nothing to do with it being the lowest pop PSA 10 card in the set and everything to do with the fact that it is Magneton, god of all Pokemon. The pitiful Charizard, Blastoise, and Dragonite tremble before the power of 3 Magnemites combined.
The short answer to your question is that it’s the lowest pop PSA 10 1st edition Gym Heroes / Challenge card and it’s just following the same trend of other low pop cards WOTC cards.
Guess i was right on this one, there’s both Misty and Erika for BIN $350 right now and a couple copies up for auction.
I dont see Erika and Misty going over $350 on the current PWCC auction, why would you pay over 350 when you have BIN options even with Best Offer enabled.
