PSA 10 1st Ed Blaines moltres

One other card I’d like to know a value of is my PSA 10 1st edition Blaines Moltres pulled from a booster myself, I’ve seen a 9 sell for around $100 but no 10s, as far as I’m aware population is sitting at 19
Cheers

Next to #15 Brock and #17 LT. Surge, it is the lowest pop holo for the set, making it the lowest pop holo Pokemon. Being a key of the set, as well as a Legendary Bird (very popular) this card has a lot going for it.

A LT Surge (pop 17) went for $286 at auction recently. I would put this card at no less than $400, and possibly as high as $750 or so with the right buyer/bidders from what I have seen with the key low pop cards from each set. $750 is probably a bit unrealistic as sure it is the 3rd lowest pop, but the ratio of Moltres 10’s to other 10’s from the set isn’t obscenely low as it is with some other key cards of different sets.

I have not seen any of the lower pop Gym cards go this higher than 200-300. What makes you think this one is $400+? I’m genuinely curious because this is a card I’m after and I don’t think it would be worth any more than $150 or so but I’m also newer to the gym set collecting and genuinely want to know.

This would explain why my Lt. surge went for almost $300 on auction. That made my box profitable.

Honestly I spelled it out about as clear as I could. It is all a bit of a guessing game, but I am fairly confident in my estimate. It always can be varying depending on who is looking for one at the time they come for sale, but there is where I would put it in general. Usually it can really only tend to go up from there for a patient seller. I mean someone in a rush at the wrong time and a true auction this could go for $200 no doubt, I just don’t see it as likely. For one, I would be there bidding if I saw it myself higher than that.

To recap: Recent sale of the LT Surge trainer lays the base at $286 for a PSA 10 of similar pop. Then consider the overall pop layout of the set as well as the popularity of that specific Pokemon allow me to make some adjustments. This is the 3rd rarest pop for the set, and one of the more popular Pokemon. Appeal to Legendary collectors and Moltres collectors. Also consider other sets low pop key card sales like the PSA 10 lapras 1st edition recent sales. Some PSA 10 jungle recent sales at $500+. Persian and Golduck from Challenge at near $1k. All things considered if I had one I would definitely not take under $500. If I needed to be quick about it, I would be confident that I could fairly quickly find a buyer at $400, but with patience I would push my expectations closer to $600-$800.

it does really come down to what someone will pay but it’s nice to know what to possibly aim for, it’s a card that I enjoy having in my collection and even more so now

I could be totally off base too and wouldn’t mind hearing other opinions, but based on what I see at the moment in the hobby I think I gave it a pretty decent shot and should be fairly close in my estimates. These cards that exchange hands less often are a lot harder to put firm numbers on. Not a well established market like some of the 1st edition base holos have.

A very solid trend has been occurring recently where all the 5 or so “key” cards as I call them (the lowest pop holos from each set) have been fetching some crazy prices. Base set 1st edition we see it with wartortle, lass, oak etc. All the way up through e-reader sets I have seen it personally.

I would say $250-400 would be a fair range with the possibility of a little higher if the right people see the card. The market for the gym sets isn’t as big as for fossil and jungle but there is a definite upwards trend in WOTC prices and this cards ticks a lot of the boxes that even some of those cards (lapras, persian, golduck, lass etc) don’t, as well as being a “key” to a set, such as being a legendary bird, gen 1, a 5 energy attack cost and also having phenomenal artwork which all make this a fairly desireable card all which will take the price up.

I’m biased towards this badboy however as it is my favourite card artwork and to be honest the fact that it doesn’t look like I can buy one of these just to have without the rest of the set makes me sad :pensive:

Just like anything it comes down to popularity of the set itself and the supply and demand. I have seen 3-4 auctions going at the same time for the same card which gives buyers many more opportunities to win it. I have then seen the same card only a few times in months on ebay and was going for twice as much, its usually easy to find an average off of the ebay sold listings but some days they could go for much more.

Exactly this. Like gottaketchumall says, the low pop creates very high ranges for this card. Just sell it when nothing is also up and you should maximize your profit

Well if you ever want to get rid of it - just shoot me a message. We can probabaly figure out something.

I’ve been on eBay sold listings ever since it was graded hoping to find one but I never did, I’m not really looking to sell as it is such a great card and pulling it from a booster just adds to the attachment, it is nice to know its fairly hard to come by and nice to know what it could possibly sell for
Thanks for your input guys

One sold for $150 the other day

A BIN price that was listed far too low. I wouldn’t be surprised to see that same serial # listed in the next few days for double or triple.
