Prismatic Evolutions SV8.5 Market Discussion: A recipe to create Evolving Skies 2 situation?

First of all, I don’t really think the economy situation actually affects, at least it doesn’t here in Spain.

About MasterBall Reverse Holos, I think they can be good to make bulk cards whose artwork mostly go unnoticed actually valuable, since from 2020 to now people judge cards by it price (sadly). I love how they are managing them this time, adding extra foil and most important, texture that interacts with the artwork. I agree they should have tested it in Shrouded Fable, that set sucked and MasterBall Reverses could have given it something unique.

Completely agree about the SIR argument, 0,5% of getting a SIR should just be illegal in some way or another.

Finally, remember Pokémon is a business with the main purpose of making easy money (AKA Reprinting Base Set for the 53th time). If SWSH Era sells better than SV, they are reprinting SWSH. If ppl still want Crown Zenith, they can keep reprinting it. They are actually profiting from this situation of scalpers and that sh*t since they are getting all their product sold.

I can’t believe I’m old, know this song but have never seen this video

Well, from the reveal of having 0 ARs in Terastal Festival, the textured Poke/Masterballs have just been unable to recreate the same kind of hit feeling.

PokeRev was basically saying that after opening 200 packs and I am pretty sure the majority feels the same. It’s nice to have textured art but they are more comparable to reverse holos that people skip over.

If they want to add it in sets again it has to be like Radiant cards, this experiment is a massive failure.

In addition to that, no idea what TPCi were thinking with the SIR pullrates. Clown company.

That said, it doesn’t really affect me directly since I don’t buy any packs but if it’s as bad as they are then singles prices will take a real long while to go down.

I see on ebay right now, $2,450 for umbreon with over 4 days left for auction

It’s not even clear that the seller even has the card in hand, as hes using the stock photo. To top it off, I see that ship date isnt until a full month AFTER release.
For all you know he could send you a totally off center card that grades a psa8

and i cant say this is a one off because there are multiple sellers with over $2k bids and a lot of time left for auctions

For a modern set we’ve never experienced ANYTHING like this. And you can buy japanese cgc PRISTINE 10 right now for $999 so this is a bit insane

I figure though, if its 4 times as hard to pull… and the box is 2x as expensive to buy (maybe a little less) then when accounting for English premium this should be 8x as expensive to buy so perhaps its being priced correctly

and this is raw too, Imagine after grading… and then imagine after this set goes out of print.

What part of this have we never seen before? Seems like the standard overblown hype and panic for an above avg set

(Also the thread is called evolving skies 2, I’m aware it didn’t react the same way but the irony is not lost on me saying we’ve never seen this before)

My brother it’s not even released yet. A speciality set like this is releasing products through atleast September that we know of.

Champions path seen a Charizard at $1k pre-sale price. They dropped like a rock and are pretty cheap.

Initial hype does not equate to long term pricing. People in Pokémon today have the attention span of a fish.

It amazes me that no matter how many times this happens with a new hyped set, people get fooled by it every single time

Its a bit ludicrous

What does it end at, $3k?
And the buyer probably gets a non ideal copy of the card

I dont remember hype like this before

Those aren’t getting paid for. If they do those buyers are either rich or just plain stupid

The craziest thing is,
There are a ton of auctions like this

One of the sellers actually says “we will be pulling a few of these”
Like what? So you dont actually have the card… and you just assume you will pull a bunch of them?

Thats incredibly irresponsible and close to being outright theft. You could literally open thousands of packs and not pull this card that your charging money for in advance

One of the only ones i see actually “in hand”

And they JUST listed this thing and look at that already… and its a weak account to boot

When did you start collecting?

Some things to take into consideration for this set:
(And no, I do not justify the prices right now. They’re crazy and its sad to see)

  • First major Eeveelutions set in the new Scarlet & Violet Era.
  • 2nd major (variety wise) Eeveelutions set to ever be released since Evolving Skies.
  • Artworks look great collectively imo. Not just the eeveelutions.
  • The hype and interest for this set is incredible. People love eeveelutions and I truly want some boxes and cards in my forever collection (not to flip). Genuinely interested in this set. Its the most hyped set on prerelease ever from what Im seeing and what have seen in my tenure.
  • It will be printed to the ground, just like every other set has been.
  • I can see this set being a landmark set in the Scarlet & Violet Era right next to 151 in a couple years.

With that being said, I dont see prices dropping back down to $80 and below, even after its been released and settled unless you happen to grab the 10 second window on pokemon center or walmart etc…

Dont forget to include Celebrations (I know you werent trying to include all of them just saying :joy:). All these sets I remember huge lines and people arguing in store for a single box. They were all sold out when they were being released but that was also a different time in the Pokemon hobby. This is bringing on a whole different kind of heat. All of a sudden tons of people I never even knew were into the hobby are reaching out and asking questions about this set. People who havent stepped foot in this hobby. Crypto “experts” lol are posting about this set on their social media as if they are experts and telling people to buy it (sad to see I know). Its discouraging. Also very interesting at the same time. I miss the good old days where in 2015 I can walk into a store and grab my favorite booster box for $59.99. Now even pokemon center has adjusted their prices on boxes.

So I actually messaged this seller, and he doesn’t have the card either. He actually pulled the photos from the listing of someone who might have actually had the card (but now that particular person’s account has been taken down and is no longer a registered user; I’m not sure if people saw that kystei-96’s account was created earlier last year than the former’s and reported the latter’s account, bferreal_cc).

I actually was going to post a thread to ask about the possibility of bot accounts popping up to sell cards that they don’t own just so that they can lock in customers’ money (i.e., a 2 week - 1 month loan in a sense) before eBay steps in and issues a refund.

Is there a way to discern between a legitimate seller and a bot account just trying to steal your money for a month?

Easiest way to see the difference is wait til release day and seeing the seller not use stock photos
