I’m looking for some hive mind advice, what do we consider an average price for an ungraded WOTC complete set?
I know it will vary by set, so be sure to list the set and price.

Way too many things to consider here. Condition, set, 1st edition/unlimited/shadowless(in the case of base)?
I don’t think you’ll get the answer you want here. Value is too heavily dependend on the condition. Other than that, some sets almost never appear on the open market (like the E-reader sets). And even then, the price today could be a whole lot different than in a few months.
True statements. But for the sake of discussion, let’s say it’s any of the WOTC pre e-Reader series complete sets, unlimited, potential grades of 5 to 9.
For such sets I generally shoot for an average of $200, more or less depending on the size of the set.
That seems about right. Again, it mostly depends on condition of the key holos. The Neo sets would be also way more than $200 in just about any condition if it includes the Shinings.
Stuff like Base, Jungle, Fossil, Rocket, Gym is indeed around $200-250 for a set.
If you’re looking to do a dirty, back-of-an-envelope calculation, try this:
x = (average cost per common/uncommon) * (number of common/uncommons)y = (average cost per rare) * (number of rares)z = (average cost per holo) * (number of holos)
cost = x + y + z
If the set has holos that are particularly expensive (charizards, shinings, legendary pokemon, etc), take them out of the calculation for z and add them separately
Pretty much all those sets are on eBay right now. Go to www.ebay.com and search ‘base complete set Pokemon’ or ‘fossil complete set pokemon’
It’s really easy:)
Now that’s what I am talking about!
I have used this method:
Holos: $10
Rares: $5
Uncommons: $2.50
Commons: $1.25
Not very accurate but like you said, this is back-of-the-envelope math.
