Espeon 1st PSA 10 sold for $6.6K 5 days ago on ebay. Not sure if paid for but it hasn’t been relisted. Given the last few sales 2 months ago seems about right, but a sizeable jump regardless.
Whoa thanks @dbruze, I hadn’t realized Lugia jumped to 25 and now 40,000! I wonder if that sale was made more public what it would do to 9s and 8s. That is what 1st edition base zard was around in Feb if I recall…
Not too surprising since Lugia is probably THE CARD of gen 2 and Neo.
These prices and chase you are mentioning are a bit all over the place, of course is natural since these card rarely goes for sale so data points are hard to gather. I think that just as previous sets, there are too many iconic cards on each “neo set” besides maybe discovery which i would say: Espeon, Umbreon, Houndour, Tyranitar, Smeargle and Yanma (because psa10).
there’s really no way to tell, it’d be all speculation. You can reference the past price relationship between typhlosion and other cards but I don’t think that’d be accurate.
it’s certainly possible. You also have to be careful assuming what the price of something is based on people not wanting to sell at certain prices because it’s possible people will lie about receiving offers, put high offers out for cards when they don’t actually intend to buy it, etc. It’s so hard to price low pop cards like that too, the seller holds all the power and if one buyer pays a million dollars that doesn’t mean that another seller could get anywhere close to that. It’s also possible all those cards won’t see the light of day for another several years.
Considering I know other set collectors (including myself) have been searching for some of these cards for years to finish sets, I feel extremely confident that the prices for most of these would be significantly higher than the prices in the original post. However, @somepokemonguy is right. Without enough data points, it’s just speculation on the actual value. Demand is certainly there though.
Well of course, if only 1 collectors needs the T17 for example to finish the set, it can go for more than lugia
Doesn’t mean it’s “worth” that
At this point, acquiring these cards is a feat on it’s own
So yeah what’s overpaying
