G’day pokefam, I have been considering purchasing sealed product such as sealed promo cards & booster packs - I was wondering what the best way to preserve them without using PSA would be?
Would an ultra-pro toploader work well? And if so, would you sleeve it & then top loader it?
There are many different methods on how people keep their sealed product protected. You will have to try for yourself and see what works for you. I feel like even on this forum this has been asked before (I can’t remember the thread though). This is what I do:
I use team bags for my sealed packs and I store them in a card box on their side (in order of release). For booster boxes they sell acrylic cases on eBay that I have seen people use (I believe they sell plastic cases as well but you would have to look online for them or have them costum made). Others have used a food tub and then wrapped their booster boxes in bubble wrap. For blister packs it’s a good idea to wrap them in bubble wrap. As for cards you can do really anything you like. Some people use sleeves and then a toploader to protect their individual cards, others put them in a binder (I use an ultra pro padded binder and also sleeve them), and for my bulk cards I penny sleeve them and put them in order of release with separating tabs in a card box. Make sure you keep your collection off the ground and not in a basement (flooding can damage your collection). Also make sure to keep them out of the sun and in a cool area. I’m sure there are many more different ways to protect your collection but this is what I have done. You can also look on YouTube to see what others are doing. Have fun collecting.
Cellophane sealed promos are best kept in 3x5 toploaders.
Booster packs are best protected in Ultra Pro tarot card sleeves. Then, you can file them sideways in acrylic drawers that meet the dimension requirements or set them upright in a box of your choosing.
Having them sealed means they would be quite sturdy and okay, and usually resistant to some dust.
I think biggest scare for me is light.
Do not place it in or near a direct light / sun light for long periods of time. Maybe a UV protective glass cabinet is good. There is those acrylic custom boxes being made now as well, but i’m not sure if they are UV resistant.
