Poll for E4 site ideas/additions!

Give me pages or give me death!

Just to address pages, we looked into this, like really looked into it. Basically you would have to rewrite and maintain core code. The annual cost quoted was 10s of thousands of dollars. I think the snarky comment from the programmers we reached out to was, “ask your user base if they want to pay it”. :upside_down_face:

Itd be cool to see more flairs and titles and things like that! Also maybe more Pokeballs; itd be cool to have little display icons you could work towards, almost like achievement hunting in games! Just as a little fun thing on the side to personalize accounts more. Plus, having a luxury ball would be rly cool :sunglasses:

I totally tried to make that as clear as can be by saying “not currently feasible” and further below with “not gonna happen anytime if ever”. I didn’t want this to be about pages, that river has already been crossed! It was just supposed to be a what if question to add to the poll.

Yeah I know I’m just letting people know exactly what we were told so it’s crystal clear!

Is that a lot to you?

Damn, oh well. Appreciate the reason for it though.

I know it goes unsaid, so I’ll add it here.

I am thankful for what we already have. Any additions will be icing on the cake. This fourum and the new mechanics are top-notch and deserve praise.

Have you tried the fast edit option by highlighting?

I think post count OR badges is fine, but why have both?

Or maybe even just the 6 favorite badges of each user, so we can customize, but also if needed limit the real-estate required… IDK what @pfm 's concerns are, so just throwing things out there.

I like the idea of post counts. I prefer endless scrolling over pages (upgrade to me). Badges in the profile sounds great :+1:

Also in terms of showing time, I’m suprised that the majority prefer seeing the clock time a post was made rather than the relative time (since now). I find it much more useful to know a post was done 30minutes ago instead of at December 17th 2022 at 12:57am EST

Ex.
If you do care about that granular detail its also available by clicking on the date

I’m curious how people would want this to be changed and what the benefit is

There are badges that can be awarded multiple times for hitting x number of likes on a post similar to the nice/good/elite topic badges. Good Topic badge on Elite Fourum

These post badges can be a proxy for what you are talking about here. I haven’t turned them on yet. If I ever do, expect a huge dump of badges to be retroactively handed out lol

At a certain point the amount of space available on the screen is a limitation. Nearly 70% of users are on mobile too, so it has has to work on a phone screen too

I could squeeze a tiny more here for the 9 posting-related badges if that’s really what people want.

On the other hand I can definitely add more features to user profile pages since there is no real space constraint there

Remember? On the old site? It did display relative time. It displayed it up to 24 hours. Then after that it went to date and time. It was perfect. That’s exactly what I was meaning. Relative time is important. Minutes, then hours, then date, not days. What does 10 days ago mean, as opposed to specifically December 7th 9:05pm. It is just much more helpful and informative.

It adds zero clutter. The relative time would still be there. But after 24 hours it simply shows date. It’s that simple.

The people have spoken! Let’s see it in action! C’mon, give it a try! Surely you checked out my sample? It shows that you can have plenty of room to do it. Post count is another matter to be talked about still, but the post-related badges easily fit and are a fan favorite! Just look at the sample!

Also, really unrelated, but this thread is really indicated that there should be some sort of tutorial on using the forum. Highlighting to edit, to quote, etc. I understand the old forum had its difficulties, but it all lay in the post composing page. Whereas here there is all sorts of tricks that are completely hidden. And on that note, I mean, I’m not trying to be here requesting anything without giving anything in return. I am happily offering to help in any way I can. I understand I cannot log in to an admin account and write code, but surely there are ways of helping to reduce your workload. Especially regarding the things talked about in this thread.

I don’t get it why users want the time option.
Do they realize this is an international forum and time display doesn’t mean so much. Unless you know in which timezone users are.

For me it’s more clear to see if a post is made 1 hour ago or 2 days ago iso.
After 24 hours it will go to a date/day anyway.

It is relative to your specific time zone, just like how your computer shows your relative time zone and all related info. It’s very simple in web based programming. Everyone used to see their specific time zones and info, meaning a post would be shown as the time it was for you when it was posted.

To much hassle for what? I can really do with knowing something was posted XX hours ago.
For me it’s clear that way.

Read the post above. It still would show xx hours ago. But after 24 hours it would show the exact date and time. It is more info, requiring less. Instead of thinking, “22 days ago, hmm that’s this date. I wonder what time that was if it might be significant in any way”, it’s “oh there’s the info all there immediately”. It’s probably why most people would like to see that.

Yes, that’s what I’ve been using a lot lately.
