This sort of statement will always read to me as, " Expressing yourself in the singular, lone, prescribed way that we decided for you is plenty". There’s a reason I personally didn’t use sprites on the old forum in my signature. I am a fan of sprites in other places, sure (collection threads etc). But that’s not the way I express myself–it’s in words and how I use them, or in photos I created. I do not think sprites are even comparable in expressing yourself or giving your profile’s immediate display as much personality. As for the uniformity aspect, that is more of an opinion/preference I can respect, though I feel there is already plenty of uniformity. I also think there is a substantial difference in displaying your collection thread name (again, as part of your individuality and personality), in the color, font, size, etc. than just everyone having the same logo next to their name, which in of itself is an odd logo, to me at least. If people have options, they can choose a variety and show their diversity. If there’s only one option, they choose it or don’t.
As for this, I just don’t agree with people in this. I don’t see it, and you saying it doesn’t mean it is true for a large enough part that it warrants restricting it. I know for my part, I was always very warm and welcoming to people who were new or had low post count (as if post count matters at all as a form of anything other than information), and I know of many, many others who are the same. In fact, I can’t think of anyone, especially who remains from old forum, who is like this. I am still vocal about my opinion that restricting something doesn’t work the same as organically letting it flourish. Think of what camrok37 said above, even. There’s a certain humility in being new to a place, being welcomed, introduced, getting to be known and appreciated, etc., that is in a way lost in disenabling things. Certain new people will always be bashful, others will be brazen and loud. That’s how it always has been. Either way, they are welcomed.
The reason for time of day mattering is because one may find that knowing when something was posted in a day can really matter and be more informative. It has come in handy many a time. I think again there is a virtue in it being one of the few majority results in wanting it. As soon as something is over 24 hours old, it could be the 25th hour or the 47th and you wouldn’t know. Isn’t that even remotely pertinent info? I think so, it seems many others do too.
I’m just trying to give perspective here, not be belligerent. I totally respect people’s opinions on a lot of things that have been said. I am just particularly passionate about a few of the things in the poll, mostly the uniqueness/personality aspects that I really enjoyed seeing in everyone’s, including myself.
I am grateful there has been a lot of enthusiasm here, and a lot of activity. It is super encouraging that there has been so much good conversation, so much civility and camaraderie to boot. I could live without certain things, but I think the theme of this poll is that people think it would be nice to bring back a few great things that people loved. That’s all, y’know?
