None of this is helped by the fact that you have Leonhart cross grading everything over to BGS because he lives down the block. I bet he never uses PSA again after his zard got lost in the mail lol
People are loving BGS because it’s easier to get a 9-9.5 and think it’s magical. As stated, it’s all about the subgrades. I have a PSA 8 lugia and I bet it would get a BGS 9 because it only lacks on surface.
You have value and then you have difficulty grading. BGS 10 and PSA 10 are not easy grades to get regardless, period. Both command premiums, but I wish poketubes would be more accurate and forward about grading.
It’s the halo effect. People that are attractive appear to be nicer, smarter and seen as overall more competent. For typical nerdy hobbies, the bar for female attractiveness is set lower. You have both FrostedCaribou and PokeNav (male) and they are both decently attractive, combine that with some editing and people gravitate towards them and trust what they say.
Someone mentioned how Leonhart lives closer to BGS and is willing to pay for next day grading because the views & ads will more than make up for the cost it. When I send a card in for grading, I have to weigh the cost of the fees & wait time to see if it’ll be profitable. Everything in this hobby has gone up, so any of these channels making investment advice will generally be correct. Maybe this speaks more towards lack of quality education, teaching people how to critically think and asses what’s going on.
CGC for flippers, impatient collectors and people testing them out
BGS is for pristine 10, black label and MTG
PSA is for Pokemon collectors, flippers, investors and the like.
So grade everything quickly and cheaply with cgc then cross over the strong 9’s and 9.5’s for 10s. I bet ppl start buying cgc 9.5’s to crack and resub to psa for 10s.
Haven’t subbed with CGC yet, but this about sums it up for me. If there’s a shot at getting a Black Label, I sub to Beckett. Otherwise it’s Ludkins or direct PSA Express 5-day.
I think it’s interesting to look at the price difference between BGS 10s and PSA 10s. For the cards I’ve selling right now, BGS 10s are a touch higher. Has this always been the case or is it a recent trend?
Huh?? From what I’ve seen flippers don’t want cgc because the premium is on PSA. It’s mostly people who want the card and don’t
care about immediate resale that like CGC so far
Might be worth it to some pessimistic flippers to send it to CGC and then sell it for 2/3rds of PSA prices at the current market than to send it to PSA and wait and wait and then sell it at what (could possibly be) 10% or 20% of current prices
CGC has a much quicker turnaround time right now. Some flippers will sacrifice the extra dollars just to expedite the process. Under normal circumstances, PSA is absolutely the way to go for flippers and I don’t even think it’s all that close, but with grading currently taking half a year or more at PSA, I can definitely see why CGC would be a more attractive option to flippers in the present moment.
It’s not really flipping but I’ve been offloading a bunch of base unlimited non-holo cards using CGC. They’re still selling close to PSA prices too if not more when they come back 9.5s,10s. Before I’d never thought about grading my extra wotc bulk lying around. CGC is actually the first company I have graded with as I never sold cards until now and just bought PSA or raw for my own collection. I still prefer PSA for my personal collection and I collect PSA 9s so I’m not personally effected by who has the best 9.5s/10s.
I’ve seen BGS and CGC give out 8.5 and 9 for surface on new cards. I really would like to know where common surface flaws at?
I see some cutting issue on the bottom and top edges of the Full arts and other textured cards. It looks like the surface has a rough cut but on the back the edge is fine.
Either way I don’t think grading is just as simple as CGC new and bad and PSA is lazy and easy 10s.
I don’t think there’s anything good about Cgc being this harsh? PSA is great for its simplicity and I actually enjoy that you don’t get sub grades. Maybe I’m in the minority here but PSA is the simplistic and visually pleasing option which is great for set collecting. If you want a super harsh and detailed grading company, go to cgc or bgs.
