Poketuber says BGS & CGC 9.5 are harsher than PSA 10

Depends on your ultimate goal. If you are chasing crap set cards and you want the best of the best I personally will not even consider PSA as an option, because the PSA 10 gap is too big. I doubt a BGS black label 10 has room for a PSA 9 condition, as a weak PSA 10 will.

CGC is too strict but PSA is too lenient.

I have a folder of PSA 10 eBay listing images/cert numbers saved solely for when I go to sell the 9-grade version of the same cards.

This folder is filled with disgusting PSA 10’s on the cards i own PSA 9s of. These images will allow my cards to sell in record times because they look so bad compared to my 9s

I will add these sham 10s to my listing images

this method would NEVER work on CGC or BGS as I’ve never seen their 10s look worse than their 9s

Good luck completing any vintage Pokémon set with cgc 10 or bgs 10 grades lol. PSA is fairly consistent I find with its 10 grade. It’s just more lenient on average. I have many hundreds of PSA 10 slabs and I find ~5% or less are not 10 worthy after inspecting every single one closely under a light.

Hahahaha nono I didn’t mean complete sets, just some specific set cards, and even then it may be impossible. Ofc PSA 10 is the easy choice and as it doesn’t show subgrades, you can “complete” your goal because you can’t go any higher, but subgrades show that your card is still not perfect. So PSA is useful to trick your mind and letting you achieve that peak and move on to other things

Not necessarily, you can still optimize PSA 10 collection sets. I am doing that with my own collection by removing the weak 10s and purchasing stronger ones over time. It’s impossible to have a complete set of perfect cards in vintage Pokémon because it just doesn’t exist. For modern, sure. I wouldn’t be able to have half PSA half bgs sets but that’s just me (ruins the Visual consistency). Each to their own I guess.

Huh. I just stumbled upon the video in question and I have to admit that it bothered me.

I don’t mind that she states that BGS and CGC are harsher. What bothered me is the fact that she was so confident in her accusations of PSA being the poor choice. She stated lots of reasons that are common knowledge for people who grade consistently but have none of the positives.

And all of this is fine, but she has NO experience grading at all. None! This is becoming increasingly common with YouTube and we are constantly bombarded with statements about things as if fact when they have no actual expertise or quoted psa 10 prices for raw cards etc.

It’s frustrating that this is what new collectors are faced with

That BGS 10 is a strong grade though.

I don’t mind BGS 9.5 or higher, but again it’s all about those subgrades.
