Pokémon Unite! Anyone excited for it?

What does everyone think???

I tried to play LoL very briefly but the community is as bad as everyone says it is. It was a fun game but the people were awful.

I think unite on phones or the switch could be fun and far less toxic with no voice chat or typing. Then again I suppose LoL wild rift could be the same.

It’ll be interesting to see how well it’s balanced and how deep gameplay mechanics go… mobas with controller/touch controls can definetely work, I played that one fairly popular moba on the switch and it felt really good. Wild Rift looks good as well. I just hope this is a well designed game that takes its multiple platforms into account and not just a bad LoL Dominion (rip) clone with toned down mechanics and a Pokemon skin.

Yeah I think it could bring a nice twist to mobas. They’re pretty fun games but I find the themes and communities kind of turn people away.

Maybe just by using pokemon as a theme it’ll bring a funner crowd. But as was mentioned above the mechanics to to be good for it to have a chance.

I’m a little excited for it though.

Arena of valor with pokémon? Why not?

Do we have a release date yet?

The reason why people are a bit sour is probably comparable to the reaction Diablo immortal had.

Most people are just waiting for a big budget pokémon game. Understandably so.

Yeah I mean they just got sword and shield so its weird people were so upset. To be honest as I got older I find the base Pokémon games less fun. They get easier and easier every time and therefore more boring. I think games like pokemon go and unite are a good way to spread the franchise and keep people who find the base games a little slow interested.

That popularity is good for the card market too!

As someone who only cared about filling the national dex the base games actually get more difficult as there are more Pokemon to collect. Although I do put in arbitrary rules that I can’t send pokemon between consoles unless that is the only place they exist. So I wouldn’t send (r/s/e/lg/fr) to (d/p/pl/hg/ss/bw/bw2).

I think I just struggled with how linear the games are and how much they hold your hand. I remember in Pokémon red when I went into a cave without a light and got lost in there hahaha. The areas just seemed further apart back then too, and this rival in sword and shield drives me nuts. There are some things I really like about it, and maybe all the issues I have actually existed in red and I just have fond memories so am a bit jaded. If they did exist in red then the only explanation I have is the age difference.

But games like pokemon go and hopefully this new one keep the franchise popular by attracting fans from other genres of games.

I want to be so hyped for this! Ive said for years that pokemon was the perfect franchise for a Moba. I generally dont play Mobas but ill try anything pokemon at least once. Im not sure how I feel about tencent tho

Tencent owns so much stuff now its hard to avoid them. From what I understand they’re usually pretty hands off so hopefully they’re just an investor on it.

Who knows maybe the game will benefit from some of the other games produced by the studios tencent owns.

It’ll be fun to have this on the switch.

Looks like it’s coming out today/tomorrow for some folks and the hype is building: Pokémon UNITE Launches on Nintendo Switch on July 21! - YouTube

Let’s see how it goes!

I’m tempted to try it, though my only experience with MOBAs is Paragon (no longer active).

It’s free to play so really nothing to lose.

I mean the idea of it doesn’t sound so bad, but playing a moba on the switch sounds horrible tbh

The game looks interesting but I just never liked LoL and this is basically a copy and paste. Not sure how I feel about killing Pokemon though

I see this thread hasn’t gotten much attention, but I’ve been playing Unite EVERY day since release. It’s phenomenal! I main Garchomp or Wigglytuff, but will absolutely be giving Blastoise a go since he just released today!

For anyone interested, Pokémon UNITE is now out for Android & iOS

I also started on Android. Its actually a fun game and had a lovely time. The games are pretty short which I also like. Only thing I am disappointed by and don’t understand is why are there P2W aspects in a MOBA. All they had to do was ask money for hats (Shiny skins etc) and I think people would have obliged, but upgrading items pre-game is a bummer. It just becomes a huge disadvantage at higher levels to otherwise really fun experience.

Cheers!
