Hope that doesn’t go up in value cuz of the flying lizard lol
Feels bad knowing how much this is and how I’m only going to be interested in 2-3 cards.
Lots of things are 200$-300$ out of the gate it seems.
I have got to get better at flipping and stop relying on my day job to buy all these new items
I would also pass at $400. The Japanese one i could see but idk who buys the english one at 400. Can see these being easy to find at stores for $400 lol
To play? I would say a very small %.
To collect/flip/invest? A lot of ppl.
i have a hard time seeing this sell out everywhere with that price point unless they deliberately underprint it.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see 350 or something for the holidays.
I hope that price for english is just bad rumors since the pokebeach article says pricing info wont be out until fall. $400 is outrageous for standalone product. Its slightly better than a $15 battle academy box only because the presentation is a bit better but even that uses only cards that are tournament legal. I hope $125 or less when it actually releases since it’s essentially 3 decks and accessories. Who wants to pay for a guaranteed mass-released charizard at that price.
weren’t we expecting $350? $400 isn’t much different…
why would this cost $400? who is this for, collectors who would never open the cellophane wrapping to play the game?
they missed the mark on that
What TPC is trying to do: market to adults who have never played the game but might be interested to if it’s some premium Apple-like product, with cards they have probably known about since childhood but are now unavailable as brand new products
What will happen: devoured by adults who have no interest in playing the game and will be a sealed or graded asset
They have to be wilfully ignorant to not know this would happen. (Well, technically it hasn’t happened yet.)
Did they even do any market research?
Well this doesn’t affect anyone who actually plays, and as a luxury item (as the commercial clearly showed) it’s going to sell well regardless - it’s still a win for TPC
If all they wanted was to make money, sure.
If they wanted it to be used as it was intended, then it’s deluded.
Grade all the cards and play using slabs
This makes a good point? For whom is this product intended?
Its been said before, but at a $400 release point this is a post 2020 collectible.
Someone posted in the unpopular opinion thread that the best days of Pokemon are behind us. Products like this at that price point make me agree with that opinion.
Just in time for christmas season…convenient
Although these cards are not new art,
All these comments of doubt seem to be very very similar to past specialty product.
Don’t forget this is a team up with nendo a luxury interior and product design firm. So the profit and cost is split a lot differently.
Is it tho? People are paying these prices on the secondary marked all the time, the Pokemon Company must also see this and see how much money they are leaving on the line
I have to agree with people here saying $400 is a lot for this. The Japanese one is 35,000yen (tax included) which is around $240. If you were able to secure a box of this from Pokemon Center Japan, then it would be $240 plus around 5 percent for foreign transaction/currency fees and then $40-$50 to ship back to you. All in at $292-$302. If the English one is $400, then it would cost me $433 with tax. This seems to be a recurring theme in same/similar products as I know the latest Kotobukiya figure is at least 1.5 times the price in the US compared to Japan for the exact same figure.
