- Pokémon Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire
You’d be forgiven for thinking Pokémon is a series for kids. Its main characters are children, after all, and it has spawned multiple animated series and movies. But, despite all that, these games can easily support hundreds of hours of high-level play. If you’re serious about Pokémon, you can spend scores of hours collecting all the monsters in the game, breeding them together and working on their stats until you’ve shaped them into finely tuned weapons. It’s not glamorous work, but judging by the size of the dedicated fan base, it certainly appeals to a large number of gamers.

Cool article!
This is most certainly the reality of the Pokemon games in general. At least the core games anyway.
Granted, I have been a huge fan of Pokemon since I was around 8 years old, meaning my tendencies are probably somewhat biased. But I find no boredom in working my way through Blue, Yellow or Red version, attempting to complete the Pokedex. I’ve even inspired a few of my best friends to get involved and have a go! And we’re all 25 now.
Oddly enough there are certain aspects of the television series, notably season 1 and 2, that I feel are actually aimed at an older age range. When pottering around my my house on the weekend I’ll quite often stick Pokemon on the television in the background. Quite frequently do I hear a line of dialogue that makes me stop and laugh from an adult perspective. Said dialogue would have clearly aimed at adults rather than children.
This allows me to justify still collecting Pokemon cards in my 20’s
