Pokémon Presents Arceus and DP remake thoughts?

this is my concern too, usually the appeal of a open world game is that there are 100’s of interesting landmarks to explore in a carefully crafted world.
this trailer has shown absolutely nothing of that aside from really bland landscapes with literally nothing in it.
i honestly wish they steered clear of landscapes like that since it just unnecessarily wastes resources… unless they add hilarious short draw distance to mitigate that. (the game was also seemingly running in low fps in all trailers)

speaking of trailers they’ve all shown that weird pallisade village which almost leads me to believe that’s the only village in the entire game lol (i hope not) but i guess only time will tell, perhaps they will release another trailer someday.

Brilliant diamond and shining pearl?
ehh i think so far it looks graphically worse than gen4 originally did which is a bit of a shame along with that chibi style :slightly_frowning_face:, the online underground can be fun if nintendo doesn’t screw this one up… please no online rooms with those god awful password systems…

i’ll likely be buying both games on release regardless.
perhaps we can get some e4 discord sessions going for the underground!

@pkmnflyingmaster, @trainofthought, I wouldn’t be surprised if the dungeons were kind of skyrim stylization where this generations Team Rocket, I forgot the name if they said it in the video, would have random spots with treasures inside. Also I am imagining that making your own potions/items will be in this as well. Thanks to the ability to collect raw materials, I don’t see why it couldn’t be part of the game. Just add some simple plants and you’ve got the basics of potion making. Especially wiht the inspiration of BoTW, it would be even more plausible. But I do tend to agree, it looks relatively bland, just have to wait and see in the long run. I’m willing to bet there is still one more video to be released during another Nintendo direct or something.

@slippingjimmy, Good point about Pokemon Home, kinda forgot about that. I wonder though if that leads into one way transfer INTO Arceus as has happened for various games in the past, admittedly, those were due to hardware restrictions. The fighting style makes me think stats need to be altered upon entering arceus, then reset when going back to home?

call me a hater but Legends Arceus doesn’t look good at all and I’m really not anticipating it will be. It reminds me of that time in gaming when “open world” was the hot buzz word and every game dev/publisher and their mother were just shoehorning “open world” into games where it had absolutely no business being there. Games which really would have been much better suited for a more linear experience were forced into being open world and it really didn’t do it any favors and detracted from the overal quality of the game.

It always makes me nervous when Gamefreak tries to innovate in the pokemon space. Their attempts to shake things up and do something new have historically been very hit or miss. I am open to being pleasantly surprised with Arceus but considering Gamefreak’s track record over the past 5 years I am not holding my breath.

I am really looking forward to Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. I just want a good, safe remake with hardly any changes where I can just catch em all and refresh my memory of the games I haven’t played since they came out on the DS. Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire were absolutely phenomenal remakes with new features that were done right. I loved those remakes. If the D&P remakes are anything close to the quality of ORAS I will be happy.

@bugcatcherjohn, I don’t see much reason for gamefreak to avoid bringing Pokemon into the open-world sphere. I’d say it has just as much business being in open-world as zelda did. It’s definitely an IP that can be morphed into just about anything I feel. Simply a matter of execution, which of course, we can’t accurately judge yet. Not trying to criticize what you said and I do agree, we don’t really have enough concrete evidence yet to give a solid judgment yet.

S+M and SS I suppose did shake things a bit, but they’re not failures by any means and they still stay true to the core of Pokemon main line games. I didn’t play SS simply due to handholding but aside from that, I enjoy the games a lot still even with the modifications to the standard 8 badge playthrough. Which, I’m kinda happy they’re trying to make it a little different. That model is honestly a little stale if you ask me. I may be minority here, but no biggie if I am.

I feel objectively, Pokemon has been making moves in positive directions, they might be missing the mark here and there, but are progressing in a direction that will keep the company strong going into the future. While I definitely agree that not everything the games have given us has been stellar, the core still exists, and as long as Arceus has a modicum of that with this new concept, I think we will have a good game. Likely this is only the start for Pokemon open world too, so it will itself be a series of innovation from here on out too.

I’m excited for Legends Arceus (and the Arceus V card) and have a Japanese copy preordered, can’t wait to open it up and play.

With the Sinnoh remakes, I’m still on the fence even though they are definitely improvements over the original releases, it’s just that I own 2 copies of Platinum and play them all the time. So far I haven’t really seen anything that really pushes me to get them, besides for the Manaphy egg, but that’s really not enough to push me. Hoping we see some more content before release or I’ll have to hang back for a bit.

Would be interesting if they let you ride different Pokemon than just the new evolutions. That’s been a mechanic we’ve all wanted since day one - the ability to actually ride OUR Pokemon.

@pigeonsyndicate , I have a much more cynical view. I think it’s been going sharply downhill ever since S&M. Fans’ backlash against Masuda’s stated reasons for making the games the way they are now are completely justified. They stated they intentionally water down the gameplay and make it hand-holdy because if it’s too hard, kids will just go play mobile games instead. In my opinion they don’t need to compromise the integrity of the gameplay to capture a new audience. Their brand is strong enough that it will sell enough copies to make it hugely successful just because it says Pokemon on it. That’s exactly what happened with Sw&Sh. Maybe I just have to accept that I am no longer the target audience and this is the way it has to be going forward but I will buy and play the new games regardless to form an opinion on them.

Re Arceus - cautiously optimistic. So far it looks like a unique approach for Pokemon, I particularly like the ideas of player health, item crafting and the potential to attack multiple times in a row (presumably based on speed stats and agile/strong style move choices) - I think it will make the combat a lot more entertaining. I also hope that with this ancient setting where information is not widely and readily available, the game minimises the amount of hand-holding for the player letting them work out strategies for finding and catching different pokemon by themselves.

What I’m yet to see is a strong story - but even so, I’m definitely going to be playing when it comes out

Back in February you may recall soon before the Pokemon Presents that announced BDSP and Legends Arceus that there were some very accurate leaks with screenshots. There are a couple of screenshots from Legends Arceus that have “new” Pokemon that weren’t shown in either trailer. This video I just watched from Austin John Plays dives into the leaks to give all of the details as well as some speculation. Let me know what you think!
