Pokemon market rolling Analytics "Japanese cards in the USA"

Keep in mind that is gross sales. Need to factor in postage, shipping supplies, selling fees, and initial card cost. After that, pay yourself hopefully above minimum wage

oh
why is it so hard to profit off of pokemon cards?

I didn’t say it’s easy or hard. Just pointing out that 500k means nothing as it is a gross amount.

It feels like so much money to me lol

you think i make minimum wage doing this. That is on you and the Youtube influencers that talk about making money on pokemon and have time to make videos cause they are NOT making money.
Stop listening to the Youtube knuckleheads.

No, I don’t think you make minimum wage. The context was explaining to a 15 year old that 500k in gross sales means nothing without more info.

Why does everyone know my age now

Also yeah, makes more sense.

wait didn’t we already go through this in another thread? :joy:

was there ever context added?

Yeah, $500K means nothing! You should just stop and go listen to youtubers for investment advice instead

I mean, aren’t profit margins for pokemon cards like majorly thin?

The whole point is that this seller never provides any context outside of gross sales so it’s impossible to know whether there is any profit or not when all said and done. We assume that there is but his posts just provide a reference to what someone can do with a ton of volume sales over time but don’t provide much info beyond that

Also makes sense! Why is everyone here so wise lol I feel like a deer in headlights.

It’s because you’re young. Give yourself time to absorb as much information as possible and you too will be wise.

You are correct it is a lot of money. The only thing is that you can spend 80k make 60k profit but it requires you to have a lot of money and build up to it over time. Time is usually what isn’t factored in monetarily

Think about it this way too— you can have 250k revenue if you made 50k a year for 5 years. But with expenses, taxes and other stuff you only actually get to use a portion of that on disposable income.

Oh so it’s just like a paycheck!

Basically! In other words Money on paper does not equal money in hand.

Having a business helps as you feel like you can actually make decisions on the larger amount but eventually you’ll have to pay your expenses for your business which add up with each month and with PokĂ©mon cards, each sale.

@Vertemes

I would recommend watching this video. It will give you an honest look into a reselling business and how large gross sales can mask very thin margins. Caleb at PhoenixResale may do $500,000 - $1 million in sales annually, but his margins are between 15%-20% in any given year. For some, that is a lot of effort for a marginal payoff. For others, it is absolutely worth it.

A job is like being a kid and a business is like being a adult in a way.
in a job, your boss or higher up handles the benefits and things for you, all you have to do is do your responsibilities and follow the rules, as for a business your really responsible for everything, from taxes to scaling to marketing and research.

Most employees in America will never become “rich” (outside of certain industries and C suite execs) which is why entrepreneurship is so big here. Chance to make real money and have real freedom but it’s truly hard to make a business work for the long term.
