Guinness World Records celebrated “Pokémon Day” (which is apparently a thing—February 27) by putting together a list of Pokémon “records.” Remembering Guinness World Records as a thing was its own blast from the past.
I used to love looking through those books in the school library so much that I asked Santa for one to have my own back in 3rd grade.
It kinda became a “thing” and my mom to this day still gets me the Guinness World Records book ever year as part of my xmas gift so I have them all from 1998 to 2019. They are really flashy and fancy looking books and it’s usually good for a quick laugh every Christmas morning and then I will spend a few minutes Christmas day flipping through it and occasionally comparing year over year or across a decade. I’ll have to see if any of these made it into my new 2019 copy. I almost feel that I’ve seen Pokemon in there a few times over the years.

I had the same flashback as you described from 3rd grade. Those books were a hot commodity in the library, and there was even a waiting list. I also vividly remember the Guinness World Record book from 2000 looking over the top 90s (I guess technically aughties) with its silver. For some reason it’s comforting to know that those books are still being published! And collected
