"Pokemon Card 151" Set - General Discussion

There’ll end up being some of the few cards I pick up outside of Eeveelutions. Always like starting/starmie

This art… its amazing

À la David Attenborough: “The scene on the left depicts low tide; the one on the right, high tide. As you can see, over the last 25 years or so, seaweed has grown to cover what was once largely a barren, sandy area. This particular specimen is a Staryu…one that, having never been exposed to a Water Stone, remains unevolved to this day.”

They’re both water type cards with Staryu because…well, they’re Staryu cards, and Staryu is a pure water type.

Basic Pokémon having a single attack is fairly common. One is a one-energy attack with no special effects (slap); the other is a two-energy attack with a special effect (swift; ignore the opponent’s weakness, resistance, and special effects).

Base set Staryu is lying on a sandy surface, new 151 Staryu is standing up against a backdrop of seaweed.

I honestly think we’re straying into seeing-Jesus-in-toast territory with this set…

Ah, I see it now. They are both star-shaped.

Is this pokemons commentary about global climate change? They were ahead of their time by releasing a bleak look at staryus future over two decades ago and only now helping others connect the dots.

I am here thinking, wtf you need a Water Stone to evolve Staryu into Starmie? Doesn’t it just evolve at level 28 or something…?

The road thus far
