Yeah it’s not really a great time to buy boxes lol. Singles are so far down that mathematically it’s better to just buy singles. Either singles go up to match boxes or boxes retrace to match their contents.
I’d argue they could be separate values like in other hobbies but in pokemon 99% of high end boxes are bought and broken by streamers so the internal value matters a lot more. Sets like sandstorm if you hit PSA 10 on everything you’d still be several thousand in the hole rn. Makes the choice pretty simple for people on the fence as to what to buy. Lots of people ramping up breaks to dump inventory or slashing prices (imo they still remain inflated overall)
My gut feeling says the price tag of $1.4M is beyond their budget, they do not have that kind of money, that’s why he did not even want to offer (for the whole collection).
The owner should have taken it to an auctionhouse or something instead of selling the base booster box separately. That collection should go ONLY as a whole. No separate deals!
