Place your bets on the next Typhlosion 17

how does clefairy compare?

clefairy is up there too but higher pop at 64 vs chansey’s 46 and it’s less popular from what I’ve seen. There are a lot of tough ones to grade/find for 1st ed base in PSA 10 honestly. Ninetales, Hitmonchan, magneton & clefairy all have populations in the 60s or below, but artwork and pokemon popularity are also major factors.

Not the next T17 but an honorable mention is the Unseen Forces Lugia ex. Pop of 50, half that of Crystal Lugia
Last eBay sell was for $1500
I don’t see anyone touching one for under 5K going forward. Also in Unseen forces is the Steelix ex with a pop of 16 the Ho-Oh in the low 20’s
not a base set Chansey or a T17, but those cards have allready asserted themselves
 I’m about what is undervalued
these are vintage ex chase cards with some of the lowest pops in the hobby.

There is no next T17, T17 didn’t pop up out of nowhere it has had a constant inertia for years, it always felt special compared to other comparable cards.

I agree with @jonandek’s list especially EX Emerald Milotic, again it shares that same unexplainable it factor whenever you see one it feels special.

Erika’s Venusaur I think is a good potential card with fairly low pop. It’s not as obvious as some other set cards. The neo umbreon and espeon will keep going up too I think.

Then realized it was blatantly against my self interest to post. Sorry :slightly_frowning_face:

1st ed psa 10 jungle vaporeon is very hard to find plus it’s a eveelution so the demand will always be there. Also the most HP out of the 3!

Agreed - Most HP definitely adds another thousand $$ at least!

That was a big ole swing and a miss my friend

T17 is an iconic card.

For people who grew up in canada gen 1 and gen 2 came out within only 1-2 years of each other so typhlosion is the favorite starter for a lot of people (including me).

The prices while being high still make more sense than 1st ed base charizard which is the highest psa pop holo of the set, while carrying a massive premium only due to popularity. So the complaints about T17 are strange to me since the premium price on it make more sense then the charizord

You cannot even remotely compare the popularity of Charizard and Typhlosion as Pokémon nor can you compare any set card to Base Set Charizard.

Remind me again, what’s the *other* Typhlosion card that sells for a super high amount of money?

T17’s high value is driven primarily by lack of supply. Yes, it has high demand as well which is why the value has exploded. But the demand for it isn’t in the same galaxy as Base Zard.

The Japanese version is underrated and a much prettier card in my opinion with the gold borders

Yeah but which version has more of the background Charizard showing? Exactly. English single handedly wins due to having 30% more Charizard

Charizard in the hobby became more hyped for the past few years due to people entering the hobby thinking they’re going to buy a 1st ed base zard and get rich from it. Tons of people ‘‘investing’’ into pokemon go straight to the zard thinking their thousand dollar will become tens of thousand (And so on so forth). So yes you’re right that tcg wise charizard is in its own realm. But purely talking about the pokemons aside from the tcg cyndaquil and other gen 2’s do come close to charmander’s evo line in term of popularity.

People in the hobby get blinded when they see Charizard and even certain people who normally wouldn’t care for it are still willing to pay a massive premium to own it. So comparing the amount of money a card gets is somewhat pointless since it doesn’t reflect the popularity of the pokemon itself in my opinion.

Greninja/lucario have been massively popular for the past couple years, tell me when any of their cards are worth anything. Popularity in our hobby has more to do with the card itself more so than the pokemon illustrated. But that’s just my opinion and observation.

(Sorry if my english is butchered, I’m trying! Lol)

I really don’t think this is true. I think Charizard is exponentially more popular than Typhlosion.

Regardless, it’s not just about the popularity of the Pokemon. The Base Set Charizard has been the more famous and sought after card literally since the beginning of the hobby. The T17 didn’t really become a prominent card in the hobby until more recently.

In my opinion, the T17 is still more about high-end Pokemon card collectors who are pretty deep into the hobby and want to complete a Neo Genesis Set. (Although clearly it’s more than *just* that or else Slowking would have the same amount of hype).

But the Base Set Charizard is a card that literally everyone in the hobby wants and even many people who are not deep into the hobby or only have a vague interest in Pokemon. And, as you said, even people who have no interest in Pokemon and just like the idea of owning such a sought after collector’s item. And yes, probably some people who want it as an investment piece too.

Like I said
it’s really not comparable. I think you do a disservice to T17 when you try to do so.
