Yes. I’m open for other opinions though. Maybe someone in here who considers buying a T17 in poor condition for that much money can explain what motivates them? I’m genuinely curious.
My assumption is it’s just people who have started collecting again who simply can’t comprehend paying psa prices (which is fair enough tbh).
I’d question why not just go unlimited.

Fear Of Missing Out.
The hype of how rare T17 is, is all fueled by this. Flippers missed it by not buying many copies to make major profits, so they dip into it to try to squeeze as much out of it as possible. Collectors that have (had) a big position in raw T17’s all submitted them to PSA to get graded and hopefully get the big profit it’s going for now.
People are either stock piling them because they missed out or flash selling because demand sky rocketed due to it suddenly becoming the next Zard.

Yes, I understand fomo. But it makes no sense for T17 as a whole. PSA 10s of T17 are scarce. Used copies of it aren’t. They aren’t any more scarce than any other holo from Neo Genesis. And there is 0 chance that a poor condition copy like the one in the link gets a decent grade. And personally I never understood the argument that T17 is the next zard. Is it zard just because it’s the next fire starter? Then why hasn’t the Blaziken rookie risen to astronomical prices? After all it’s Zard the 3rd? And what about T18? It was released at the same time as T17, so shouldn’t it be worth significantly more than the other “common” PSA 10 versions of the Johto starters? (it’s not)

T17 is not a rare card. It’s only rare in psa 10. People paying massive prices for PSA 8 and 9 copies are uninformed and are going to have a bad time.

T17 is for sure not the next Zard. But T17 has these things against it; it was a playable card back in the Neo-series, so many played copies exist, it has printing issues with ink dots and centering issues. Add on top of that major hype fest on Instagram.
No. T17 isn’t the next Zard. It also will never be. Plenty of cards in Base, Jungle, Fossil that have way more potential when this storm of hype around T17 is gone. Saur, Stoise, Chansy, Dragonite and as I said earlier in the thread; Trainer Cards.

Next T17 will undoubtedly be the next extreme low pop to be thrown on auction. M10 has had multiple pop on ebay this year and hasnt presented as scarce as it actually is… and did have an auction that ended at 4k. I honestly think it couldve done better if the one listed BiN was thrown on auction instead of listed at 9,999.
If i were a flipper and I graded the next F5/Slowking/Heracross/Expedition Skarmory/Whatever dried up card you want - I will immediately DM SMPratte and try to have him Co-Sign. Regardless of the fee he charges, I genuinely believe that he would be able to net you the most upon a sale.

There was 4 psa 10s meganium 10s graded in the last few months. I wouldnt bank on this card doing it.

PSA 10 southern islands holos. We’ve already seen huge auction prices from togepi and mew. The set is INCREDIBLY hard to grade seeing as it’s riddled with print lines and holo scratches by how it was packaged. SI Mew will be the next to break 5 figures imo.

Once the PSA 10 prices out a lot of collectors (it already has), they will go for the next highest grade which is a 9 and so on. You see this with 1st edition base for example. your right about it not being rare because its a set card, but the supply of 9s and 8s that are available for sale is quite small. The pop report alone is small for the PSA 9. What people pay determines the market.
Cool Porygon will be the next 6 figure card. No other card is as cool. Sorry to break the news to you guys but it’s just fact.
