PayPal Scumbag Refund Policy

Many of you are probably aware of this, but for those that aren’t it really is something to make a note of.

I recently had a buyer purchase a card on eBay for $900. They paid through PayPal but then quickly messaged me saying they had made a mistake and would I cancel the order. As there’s no point trying to force a sale on someone, I accepted the cancellation and refund was processed.

Now here comes the scumbag bit. From the original payment PayPal took around $50 in fees as usual, but then refund was covered entirely by me. So now I’m $50 down for doing the right thing.

Unfortunately in the future I’ll be adding a note on my listings saying that any refunds will not include the fees but I expect this will likely result in negative feedback. We just can’t win!

Fuck PayPal.

Name of the buyer?

Very soon you will not have to worry about Paypal provided you are talking about your ‘listing’ being on ebay

This is one benefit of ebay’s “managed payments”. The 2.7% payment processing fees are refunded by managed payments in the event of a cancellation.

This is cryptic. Is there some news I missed regarding alternative payment methods on eBay or something?

They are doing away with paypal for payments (pressumably still an option)I dont see how thats cryptic but each to their own

is it for ebay stores only though or everyone

At the moment it’s invite only, but you can let them know that you “express interest”, i.e. want to use the program via their registration page.

It doesn’t matter whether you own a store or not.

I actually got the “invite” but it ends with a mandate! If I don’t sign up by end of December I can’t sell anymore!

Sounds like they are ushering it in with a strict deadline by an imminent time.

I’m already on the cant sell anymore. Have been since Nov 1. I personally am not too thrilled with how they it was being implemented so I was not rushing to sell things. Good thing is that any listing you have up before that period is still honored and will be paid via paypal.

Until the listing renews after 30 days, then I believe any payment would come through eBays MP system.

Gotcha, that would make sense–though I also read kpods response, which also makes sense. Either way, I sell cards on ebay, fairly regularly, so I am being forced by the corporation–another standard trend of our modern lives that is ever increasing in its normalcy. Shame. Captains of industry! Masters of the Universe! :winking_face_with_tongue:

Don’t worry. You’re far better off with eBay’s managed payments than having to deal with PayPal’s BS.
