So I was trying to buy something today only to find out that my PayPal account is on hold due to me having received over €2500 in the past year through it. Currently the only thing I may currently do is receive money until I give them a copy of my passport but I was just wondering if anybody else has had this and what the outcome is likely to be?
Same happened to me last year, after I submitted all documents it took almost 2 weeks before my account returned to normal state.
Happened to me too. They are forced by law to request more information from you once you’ve received over 2500 euro.
I had some trouble with proving my address. Since I live with my parents the electricity bill etc. shows their name and not mine. I tried submitting an electricity bill with my fathers name on it (we have the same surname) and it got rejected. Luckily a few days later I received a letter from the government regarding my education grant that had my name and address on it. Paypal did aprove that one.
Ah this just sounds like more hassle than I can be boheme with right now… guess I’ll sort it on Monday and then wait it out and see. I really hope it’s not going to take 2 weeks though as I was really hoping to make a psa sub for the end of the month and that will be cutting it close.
This actually happened to me a while back. They gave me the option of typing in my social security or tax payer ID although it seemed like an automated system. I do not recall the hold lasting that long although it could have been just a simple verification. Good luck!
Happened to me as well, it’s part of the law that each country has and the amount they enforce it on changes again due to your location.
This happened to me about 2 years ago when I got a payment of $1,500. Only took a week to resolve though.
Did any of the above happen in the US?
I faintly recall a temporary hold a few years ago while I had to scan over my license and provide my social security number and I am in the US. It is just something they do as accounts hit certain thresholds to ensure that everything is savory and that they have proper identification for the individual/business running the account. I think for me, it was much quicker than some of the above timelines. Probably all done within a few hours after scanning over my ID and providing my social over the phone.
They closed my fucking PayPal account because I opened it when I was under 18 apparently… I’m a month away from 23 do why that even matters I do not understand…
I had the same problem. I needed to call them and send in my bank balance etc and THEN I was allowed to make a new account. You can never use an account that was created before you were 18 again and you can’t ever use the e-mail adress you used for it again…
It’s my primary email address which is annoying. They say I can make a new one but I don’t want the hassle of adding and removing banks etc so I’m gonna give them a call and see if anything can be done. Gotta pull down my eBay listings now…
That is very annoying. I am sorry you’re having to deal with the frustrations of policy. My greatest issue with policy has always been its inability to capture grace.
I have 6 different accounts with PayPal which covers my eBay accounts. Never had this situation pop up.
I actually started with them when they were known as Confinity or something like that and I was using Palm Pilots lol.
When they started doing money transfers in 2000 if we as sellers could get buyers to use them we’d get 5.00 apiece. Obviously we pushed for those 5 dollar bills.
I was smart enough to use and promote them in the early days but was stupid enough not to invest:(
