I’m 17, turning 18 in a couple of months. I was going to hold off on making a paypal until then to keep in line with the legal requirements of making one, however the most recent trophy card listed on yahoo.jp has got me wanting one now to bid on it. I was just wondering if anyone on the forum had any ideas as to what repercussions could happen if I made the account whilst being 17 and lying about my age by a couple of months to bid on the card and if there is the possibility that I can suffer legal consequences because of this.
Dang, you are after some nice stuff for a young lad (I’m only a year older, but going for a trophy, you are loaded!)
Anyway, if you make paypal now, I would just add 1 year to your birthday, as I have heard of people losing their accounts before, because they made their account when they were younger than 18. I can’t verify it, but I think adding a year to your birthday is less likely to create a problem.
Well it depends on the price the trophy rises too but due to it not starting at an already high price I am taking more of an interest in this one. If it were starting at 4-5k I’d probably be less inclined to consider it. It’s nice seeing there’s some others closer to my age though here!
So instead of '99, make it '98? Do you know if you lose your account due to it either being disabled or due to the unfortunate circumstance of forgetting a password or something, does paypal allow for more than one account to be made, or is there a limit to the number of accounts that can be created? I obviously wouldn’t really care if my account was disabled after making the purchase as long as it arrives and I could make another in the future at some point.
You can have one of your parents make an account, and use that for a couple of months. That’s what I did years ago when I wanted to buy stuff on eBay but was underage.
I think the age thing is only a factor if PayPal asks you for your SSN. Otherwise, I don’t think it really matters tbh.
I made and used a paypal account when I was 14 and had zero repercussions. I actually bought a 1st edition jungle and fossil booster box for under $100 a piece. oh the memories
anyway, when I turned 18 I made a new one and that was that. You should be fine.
You can make multiple accounts, that shouldn’t be a problem, so if you want to play it safe, you could make a new one later, but you are Most likely fine making one when under 18.
I started buying and selling on eBay while I was a sophomore in high-school - created my own eBay and PayPal Account. I used those two accounts all through high-school and partially through college; until I made the mistake of thinking that I was “done” was Pokemon and eBay and sold-off my entire collection / inventory and closed-out those accounts…
Anyway, that’s the past! I never once had any issues with eBay or PayPal during that time - you should be fine.
I’m not sure, that’s why I’m asking. I only intend on bidding on this one trophy card prior to my birthday as I would typically like to avoid making purchases through Noppin or Buyee so therefore I cannot foresee my expenditure being any higher than perhaps 3-4k depending on how this trophy card goes.
Everyone else has said it’s fine which is why I’m leaning to be more comfortable with the idea but now you’ve thrown me a little :')
PayPal will require you at some point to verify your account, which requires submitting evidence of your age through date of birth - if and when that happens they find out you were lying I’d suspect a ban of that account. If it was me, I’d be asking my folks until my 18th.
When PayPal first started they’d give us 5.00 for every person we got to pay us through PayPal. I sold about 10 cheap items per day on average and got a free 50.00 every day. It was awesome. Plus, it worked for them too. They went from next to nothing to a mega billion dollar company;)
When I was selling more actively years ago Paypal required extra documents to prove identity after I received more than 2500 euros in one year, ended up sending picture from driver’s license and electricity bill. They were really strict that everything matches with current account info.
I’d totally wait couple months so you can create own account without any worries, even when it seems you’re doing mostly purchases right now. I’m sure someone from your family etc. is willing to help.
I’ll see how pricey the card gets and go from there I suppose. I wish I was able to purchase the card just using a bank card, it’d make it easier for me at this point in time :S
