FYI: it seems like all sealed packs from Cardmarket (popular website in Europe) below 1500€ have been wiped out in 1 day. There have been several offers today, now they are all gone
I fill like this promos has gone way beyond what I’d ever be willing to spend for it. Its nice enough looking, but at that kind of money, there’s a lot of other cards that start to look a lot more appealing including a couple of the Festa promos.
They are all listed again. I imagine someone put them all in their cart (reserving them) and not buying them.
Assuming there are 2,000 staff promos and roughoy 1,200-1,400 regular promos, it’s interesting that the staff version is selling for about 30% more than the regular english copy. Staff overvalued? Or the regular english undervalued?
Stamped Worlds promos have always been more valuable.
Total supply is only one part of the equation. The difference between 1500 and 2000 is also trivially small. The distribution also matters. ~4x as many unique people got the non-STAFF version, which means more potential sellers.
I think the biggest factor is not a supply thing at all. If I offered you plain vanilla ice-cream or vanilla ice-cream with sprinkles, people will still want the sprinkles even if the plain cones are relatively rarer
What is in the competitor bag?
Imo, the modern worlds promos feel kinda bland compared to the pre-2011 ones. Theyre also dumb expensive
That is when they changed artists. Kizuki did them until 2011 and then the baton was passed to Saito. I think Saito had some solid concepts, peaking with 2019, but I agree that the Kizuki era had charm. I don’t know why they switched artists. It would have been another layer to have the same style/psyduck as the OG 99 wind!
Yea, Kizuki is one of my favourite artists, so maybe im biased lol i dont think Saito did a bad job, i agree its just that original charm. Plus idk “paradise resort” or “champions festival” just isnt as fun as tropical steez pikachu hitting a gnarly wave, or psyduck napping in a hammock
I was gonna say “tropical series” but went for pre-2011 since im not a huge fan of the tropical beach
You just answered my MMR patreon question. I was going to ask if you preferred Kizuki or Saito. Thanks haha
Kizuki’s world’s promos are awesome. It’d be nice if Saito retired from World’s promo and another artist took the torch. I feel like Saito’s style has run its course.
I think the theme as a whole has felt uninspired over the past few years. I think changing to paradise resort is a step in the right direction. Who would you like to see pick up the torch if you had a choice?
Sowsow might be fun!
Idk I mean its just a name change right? Not trying to be negative but the artwork doesn’t seem any different.
It’s hard to critique Nooki Saitou style because it just seems very basic to me. But I suppose what I would like is an artist whose style has more character or accents.
There are so many artists today. I wonder if each year it should go to a new artist.
I mean its been the same name since like 2016 hasnt it? These kinds of things are important to me!
I think someone like Kanako Eo or like Hitoshi Ariga would be cool… Sowsow would be interesting! The idea of rotating artists seems like a solid idea too tbh… so many amazing artists in Pokemon these days
Yeah they started champions festival in 2013. I feel like paradise resort would have fit better for Hawaii. But maybe it was a hint for Hawaii.
As long as we move closer to the tropical paradise vibes, i cant complain too much. Didnt the tropical mega battle take place in hawaii too? Really going back to our roots here
Yeah i think it’s also a matter of uneducated buyers/market.
If i went on ebay and saw the staff version selling for more, i would assume it has less supply than the regular version.
Now that i know the regular version is of a smaller supply, i feel the regular version is undervalued.
The distribution method isnt necessarily a driver for the price discrepancy, more so trivial and down to perception. A single individual obtaining more copies can be a driver in either direction, see: european gold star heist as an example.
I couldn’t agree less. A 500 card difference is nothing. Also, even if the difference was bigger it still wouldn’t matter.
What people want matters way more than the number produced in almost every case. STAFF is like the regular English copy but better because it has an extra layer to it. If it was simply up to the number printed, it doesn’t explain why you can get like 10 Korean copies for the price of 1 English copy and 2 English copies for the price of one Japanese. It also doesn’t explain how the stamp promo Pikachu, which is known to have 80,000+ printed, sells for more than either English competitor or STAFF copies of the Paradise Resort. But all these examples are easily explained by demand.
