I finally picked up mine for 480 USD at the March PWCC auction block. This was the first one up for auction I had seen in a while. Was surprised I got it that cheap since my max bid was above 700 back then. 1400 USD do sound a little steep though, but these cards are getting harder and harder to locate. If you wait until one comes up for auction again, you can probably get one cheaper.
Not long ago a lot of people were talking about how 1st ed Base growth was slow compared to other WOTC sets in the last few months… and to some extent that still may be the case, but in the last couple of months or so there has been significant price growth for 1st ed Base.
Honestly bro, buy it! Who knows were the price will be in a few weeks, get it before you miss out! There’s no such thing as anything being overpriced just buy it, and hurry before someone else does. It’s a really good investment!
You heard what @scarecrowman88 said right? It was $480 in march, it will be $2k+ by the end of may! Hurry up!
thinking PSA 9 1st Ed base as overpriced given the current market is crazy!! they probably are right now one of the best value cards in the hobby you can buy I think more experienced collectors who have been around for a while would seize this opportunity that all these new collectors have failed to do due to a lack of experience/foresight in the hobby and initial funding I mean common this is mint examples of the most iconic set in Pokémon history, I thinks its a blessing you can still pick these up for under 1000 especially with ungraded mint copies being non existantb. also 1st Ed base is the most graded set and has years of establishment cmpared to other sets but I guess new coll3cters may not have the previous engagement in the hobby to have an appreciation for that also if 1st Ed base is doing over all bad in the future then I honestly cannot see how any other set cards could be doing successful in that scenario due to 1st Ed base being the core pillar to the entire pokemon card market.
Congrats on adding a set piece! Independent of price, that is an amazing card.
Records are meant to be broken, but I advise people to calm down and carefully consider BIN transactions that are 1.5x-2x more than the last 8 public and private sales.
It feels like everyone is trying to catch a ride on the next rocket to the moon… we all can’t be astronauts
