Official US Presidential Elections Thread 2016

I don’t think you understand what I’m trying to say.

I’ve never been on the dole or any kind of welfare in my entire life. I’ve always had a job, since I was 14. I’ve always lived within my means, and always prioritised family over all.

That’s not the attitude of those on welfare that don’t deserve it. People who have t worked for years and are perfectly able to do so. These people rob benefits from people who truly deserve it. Like the disabled community. We could offer them so much more if we stopped letting Johnny down the road get $1,000 a fortnight in welfare for his 6 kids and his drinking and smoking addictions. People like Johnny don’t use the money to look after his kids, he spends it at the pokies and getting plastered.

I don’t hate authority, I’m in the military, surrounded by authority. I respect it.

The millitary is shit and evil. They have done nothing accept expand empire and murder countless civillians. Im disabled as shit and I still work, I can see how you dont like johnny down the road, but not everyone has the same life as you, or is johnny down the road. How can someone even support them selves in finding a job with all the terrible government services that are suppose to " HELP " these unfortunate people get a job to begin with.
The welfare is the least of our problems in the economy my friend… It should be there, it needs to be. What do you want it to be like america or something were everyone murders each other and crime is everywhere.
this work for the doll bullshit that the liberal party introduced has done nothing!! There literally working towards nothing and it doesnt help them at all.
Please don’t tell me you believe your fighting for your country, because your not. I hope the american and Australian people can understand why there really there… The brainwashing is real.

I agree with the majority of your post except this, which is simply wrong. I’m studying Sociology and Politics in university and we cover this extensively.

What you’re referring to is the culture of poverty and the myth of meritocracy, where welfare recipients sit on their lazy, fat asses all day and do nothing, while your hard-earned tax dollars go to them.

I wish I had my Soc notes from last semester to pull up the exact figures, but a vast majority of those who live below the poverty line and receive welfare are working. However, they are either working in low-wage jobs that cannot provide for them and their families, or are stuck in a self-perpetuating culture of poverty. Their parents were low-income and lived in low-income areas. As such, they go to substandard schools as children and receive substandard education. They don’t have the money to go to college, or need to immediately enter the workforce to provide for their families. The only jobs that are available are low-paying, unskilled jobs that feature no upward mobility. They work 40 hours a week (the same as you) but make significantly less, never get raises, and are often forced to work multiple jobs to make ends meet.

Those that can’t find jobs (due to illness, disability, criminal history, etc.) simply have no choice but to do nothing. They would be working if they could, but can’t find an employer who will take them. The only way these people can survive is through welfare.

The basic idea is this: you are where you are today not because of your work ethic, but because of your circumstances at birth and what opportunities you were given. Your work ethic plays a factor, but not as much as other circumstances. The “American Dream” is a myth, simply working hard will not make you successful. If you’re white, middle class, and male, then oh boy you’re golden. But if you’re black, poor, living in a low income area with substandard education, simply working hard will NOT make you successful.

This guy said it man… It if your white your golden. Secondly These people would just die in america, these unfortunate people just can’t get a job, the competition is crazy and there by themselves… At least they can live and not starve because of the wealfare here in australia. People who are fortunate just don’t understand, and probably never will. I probably won’t live to 40 with my current condition, but I still consider to be pretty fortunate because Of my caring family, and I’m white, I have a awesome paying job and That’s good enough for me… I wish I could do something for these people, but we can’t if we keep listening to the bullshit right wing agenda. I will master my computer science skills and then team up with @thorgene and we will destroy.

Deez Nuts will win…

Here is another reason you can’t trust hilary clinton. She gave 12 speeches in 2013 to Banks which netted her nearly $3 million.

Exactly the Clinton family has been given billions of dollars to defend the banks and corporations… They will burn in hell.
I will kameha maeha there asses into another dimention.
She literally came out and said she will defend the banks from terrorist attacks a few weeks ago.
The global financial crisis happened because those goldman sach cock arms infiltrated congress whilst the thing 1 party helped them deregulate housing… Once again why vote for republicans? Why people… Why…

There was this ass hole on instagram a few weeks back who was calling all collectors broke stupid kids and being a racist shit, he thought he was so awesome with his 10,000 cars he owned and he was talking about Our honorable president getting in power and that all us would disappear… This guy had the mental state of a 5 year old and absolutely no feelings towards his fellow man… This is the kind of thinking republicans try and spread… I have to say though this guy was just a plain old shitty person, and he was probably always going to be… But maybe hr wouldn’t have been if he didn’t make 700bucks a day. One thing I don’t get, since he’s so rich why the fuck he trying to get shadowless cards off what he calls broke kids for a cheaper price then asking price… Then he goes and starts being racist.
People like that just can’t be taught, or reasoned with.

This is soooo misguided.
If you break down who the corporations are…IT IS US lol.

I own a little corporate stock and expect it to increase a little helping with retirement. Plus I worked for a couple corporations including Del Webb and they paid me a good wage and I raised a successful family thanks to them.

Now if you want to throw things at someone make it Bernie Sanders who wants EVERYBODY to fail by lowering expectations and taking away any incentive to succeed.

Just look at Greece or any of a dozen other socialist countries. Well, there’s your Bernie Sanders. He’s the typical old time 1960s hippy radical who I grew up with. It didn’t work then. It’s never worked anywhere. And I believe we are too smart to think it’ll work now.

There’s like 30 points I’d like to reply to but it’s getting too tough with such long posts.

I’ll answer one as short as possible.

Someone used Canada as an example for stellar health care. Uhmm…wrong.

Over 46,000 leave Canada each year seeking health care compared to 2-3000 from USA and most of them are crackpots going to Mexico for cancer cures lol.

It takes an average of 20 weeks (5 MONTHS) to see a specialist in Canada and many die waiting. I get specialist appts. here from 1 day to 2 weeks.

Now since OB amass failed Our honorable presidentcare has gone into effect it has gotten measurably worse but it’s correctable as soon as new leadership gets in there.

I think that this is a bit rude and the presumptions being made here are laughable at best.

Not once have I said that welfare isn’t a good idea for those who need it, but there are severe cultural differences between the US, Canada and Australia that you either can’t fathom or haven’t experienced yourself. You’re very young and still learning- like we all are.

The classes you are doing now at university, I probably sat some of the same classes nearly 10 years ago when I was at University.

I didn’t grow up with money. My earliest memory from childhood was a batman toy which I had for 6 years and was my only toy I had for a very long time. My mum worked hard to keep up with rent and keeping us both fed. My shitty father walked out at birth and never payed a cent of alimony (child support in Aus).

I went to public schools, had hand me downs and whatever we could get. I worked hard. Tirelessly. I started at McDonalds and inched until finally I am where I am on good money.

I didn’t have shit handed to me. Nothing came on a platter, so I won’t be lectured like I’m some kind silver spooned kid who doesn’t know what it’s like to have nothing.

Australian welfare is a joke. The people who need it get absolute shit all. The disability pension needs raising, pensioners need increases and veterans need more support.

Not someone who refuses to work because they can get it for free. It’s 100% attitude here. If you don’t believe me, come here and see it for yourself. Welfare is an incredibly complex beast that I can’t foresee us ever getting right, the current system is just so wrong though.

I certainly won’t be lectured by @pokemonsyndicate about how shit my job is when you can’t even comprehend how vital the military is to world function.

It would be very easy for me to say “you’re a simple cleaner, what would you know” but that would be complete insulting and unjustified. Instead I urge you to actually look at what the military does, especially the Aus Defence Force. It’s incredible what our organisation pulls off, the amount of people we help. War is but a tiny function of the broader picture.

The military taught me how important everyone’s role is in everyday life.

Now, let us all return to topic…

Gary I think your being a little misguided by your experience. You come from an era of hippy/socialist and reganomic/firm handshake. You have two sides of the spectrum from that era. Many of the problems with those FOX viewing senriors is they cant understand how the newest generation isn’t able to get jobs, in so much debt after school and unable to enter the family/car/house /career like they were. I agree that some of Sanders plans are fool hardy. You also have to realize because you got “yours” from a company, were able to take care of your family that they are okay. Profits don’t justify every action.

I want your honest answr to this question Gary. Are you okay with companies having an effective tax rate of 0-1%? There was an article which covered many of the companies who got bailouts. In that article some companies paid less taxes than tbey got back in returns. $1 million in taxes but $20+ million in tax returns. Wealth inequality isn’t a joke and can’t be blamed on people not pulling themselves up from their boot straps.

The education in tbe US isn’t that great. Much of that is due to the republicans party. They are trying to rework the history books in Texas to include Christianity and removal of horrible actions the US has done.

We are on the topic… War is a political game.
I know my job is shit, but you sounded like you weren’t happy with yours, so I was saying that you shouldn’t feel like your giving all your money away to poor people and not wanna get out of bed and put on your work clothes and go to work and shit is all… There was no insult.
I think your taking things the wrong way, and you don’t get what I was getting at.
I think your awesome ozenigma, I just didn’t think you would say such things about under privlidges people after all the posts in this thread that you stand for is all.

Gary Greece had a deregulation problem as well… It’s not because of socialism.

You’re missing it again. I stand for people who can’t stand for themselves.

I can’t stand people who are just lazy and are able but do nothing.

Welfare is a great tool when used wisely. It is not used wisely here in Aus.

Not enough money goes to;
-disabled
-pensioners
-veterans
-carers

Too much money goes to;
-lazy bogans

That’s all I’m getting at.

I’ll probably be full disabled within next few years and won’t be able to clean anymore so thank god I live in Australia because in America I would probably die soon once disabled. Also the medication I’m on cost 18,000 dollars a year which is funded by our health system here… If I was in america I wouldn’t be getting this treatment right now and would be totally dead soon. The republicans don’t want anything like the way we have here in Australia and people should think of that before voting for them, because there is a lot of sick people out there and they can’t afford these redicies amount for these meds.

Another thing I want to say about US politics is there is no compromise. The republicans have been holding bills hostage. One one side you’ve got republicans who are bought and paid for. They all vote the exact same compared to the democrats. You can’t pass any reasonable bills either. Republicans are against universal background checks? Closing gun show loop holes and Corporate class 3 firearms licenses. I’m an avid gun fan and I don’t agree with many civilians owning silencers or automatic weapons. I’ve taught foreign nationals how to use guns and many of them are fighting boko haram (the child kidnapping terrorists). I’m not a fan of no accountability for weapons. We all register vehicles so why shouldn’t all guns be registered?

Democrats are just a mess and all over the place. Many of democrats are acting like apologists for everything the “white man” has done. You’ve got high ranking politicians having meetings with a girl who lied about being raped. www.mindingthecampus.org/2015/06/did-mattress-girl-tell-the-truth-not-very-likely/ You’ve got this side of the spectrum being afraid to offend anyone and has to protect the women and the minorites without actually doing anything to help them from the start. You can’t just fix things with quotas now and hope that’ll trickle down to the next generation of women and minorites. If trickle down economics didn’t work for republicans why will it work for democrats?

We can argue about parties and believers of one side are misguided but this won’t help solving any of the problems. The only truth I think the majority of us can agree on is that elections has become a choice of the lesser evil.

Now that is an inspiring story Ryan. I’m sure you have many more. You are a true inspiration to all who have a mountain to overcome but feel so helpless. Very well done:)

And Pokesyn. I might know a little more than others about your history but you too are an inspiration. What you have to live with and still bring humor and intelligence to all is extremely commendable and I appreciate you.

@ozenigma Disagreement is not rude. This is one case where there can be no difference of opinion. There are no presumptions. This is scientifically proven fact. I am right.

I’m not saying it is impossible to rise throughout the social and economic classes. I’m also not saying you had everything given to you on a silver spoon. But you also have privilege. I assume you are white, received a reasonable primary and secondary education, didn’t have to worry about getting shot on the streets, you had strong role models (namely your mother), your community wasn’t filled with drug dealers, etc. etc. Everyone on this forum who has money to spend on Pokemon cards has some degree of privilege I feel.

I also assume you aren’t rolling in cash now. You’ve worked hard, but how far have you actually risen? Maybe you grew up in the lower-middle or working class and you’re now middle class, but I don’t think you’re rich. If you’ve worked so hard and made so much with the opportunities you were given, shouldn’t you be making more money? You’ve done arguably the toughest job in the world, serving your country. I would say you should be making a lot more than you are now, if the world was simply a meritocracy.

I’m not talking in absolutes here. There are always exceptions to the rule. Your social class at birth is the best predictor of what social class you will die in. Born rich, die rich. Born poor, die poor. It’s damn pessimistic, but true. Again, not saying you can’t rise up. But it’s unlikely that you will. Even less likely if you’re black, female, born in a bad community, etc. In this case, you can’t argue with the statistics. Welfare recipients aren’t just able-bodied people who sit around and collect checks from the government because they don’t want to work. It’s just not true. You show me one person who’s cheating the welfare system and I’ll show you two hundred who are using it exactly how it’s intended.
