(NON-)TCG Games Related Cards

Hello guys.
I’m from 1996 class, so i grew up with pokémon anime.
So, what’s my problem? I tried to watch it again when i was 18…
Don’t do that guys.
Basically I started to feel grief thinking about the anime, but in return I rediscovered how the old broken fashioned games were and still are.

What I’m saying it’s that I like game references on pokémon cards. Most of all come from non-tcg elements or old wotc. That’s how I’ve based my actual collection.

The rules are simple:

  1. Sugimori is god. Everything that’s old sugimori stuff has to be taken.

Topsun
Carddass (series 1 to 4) & Sealdass (series 1 to 4)
Bandai Kid’s (gen 1 & 2)
Tomy Scratch Cards (series 1 for sure, series 2… I’ll think of that later)
Base set to Neo Destiny with a careful look at Rocket and Gyms

  1. Arts that reminds at the pokémon games
I don’t collect (yet?) newer cards, so only thing that comes to my mind are full art (?) with gym leader, or trainer red, or some npc like wallace’s training from the ex era. This is gonna be a loooong WIP…

  2. Actual games references despite the art (this may be insane… but I don’t care…?). Like, the card explicitly tells you something about a pokémon game.

Kellog’s Game Tip Cards
Danone Pokémon Stadium Cards
Battle-e Cards

  1. If it has anime in it, it’s poison. So, I’m avoiding:

Topps (even if I haven’t burnt my old topps from childhood yet)
Carddass Anime Collections
Meiji 1997 Set & 1998 Film
Whatever has anime references and wasn’t listed before.

  1. I’m a binder collector. Some of you may spit in my face, and I’m glad it’s just that and I’m not going to jail for using binders. So:

Jumbo Cards are off the wishlist.
Postcards are not welcome either.
Stickers… Maybe? I mean sealdass are stickers. So yeah?
For the half/micro cards from cardass half chip… I’m gonna think of that later.
The smaller they get the more awful they look in a standard binder (5.5 secret rule).

  1. Not everything fake is bad. I accept suggestion in custom cards, if you know some worthy to be aknowledged.

At the end of the day, what I’m asking you is to guide me through the second step or pull out of the cylinder something I didn’t mention in the sets before to help me become insane be a better collector
Thank you

So you’re looking for non-tcg cards that have to do with the video games and not the anime? Im not huge on non-tcg, I’m sure others here will have better suggestions. But I will say if you want a tcg answer my choice is definitely the vending series which combines themes and references to the games with that old school vibe.

Based on the types of sets you’re referencing, you probably already know about the vending series. But I wanted to point it out anyway since it checks a lot of your boxes (including being one of the best binder sets)

Well, check Trainer Gallery Cards from the latest sets or Cosmic Eclipse, you will find amazing stuff there, like -for example- this

There are also a lot of common trainer cards featuring gym leaders from the first games, like Brock, Misty… even Team Rocket (Jessie & James was first presented in the anime but later were added to Pokémon Yellow, so I think it could work)

You can also check sleeves, clear files…
Good luck with your collection!

Yeah I knew that, It’s just hard for me to find some nice vendings. I already have a spot for the 3 sets waiting to be filled

Surge surrounded by magnemites and Erika’s clothing here is a huge cit of the games, otherwise Jessie bullying James (and having a wobbuffet on the background) or James holding a blue rose are anime references. They were present on yellow, but all the comedy between those characters born in the anime and not in the game, so i’m skipping those two. I’ll dig those sets btw.

Also: that MissingNo. is sick, i’m digging that store too

Thank you both guys
